Is it just me or has this been the longest week? I’ve noticed that it is starting to get dark earlier, and it seems like I can’t get as much accomplished because the days end a little sooner than they did back in the summer.
I’ll start with the area birthdays and one anniversary for the week. Happy birthday to Larry Mabe and Jean (Long) Akins on Sep. 20; Jerald Wren on Sep. 24; Leroy Akins, Lana Mabe, and Amanda May on Sep. 25; and H.C. Burns on Sep. 26. Sept. 22 marked Johnny and Mary Lynn Ferguson’s 47th anniversary. Happy anniversary to them!
MWow, this rain has been great! Some people have complained, but not me. I'm glad to see it.
This week happy birthday wishes go out to James Weaver on the 13th and Truman Renshaw on the 14th.
Speaking of birthdays, Jayden Arledge had a birthday party Sunday, Sept. 13, at Classic Lanes bowling alley in Sulphur Springs. He turned 4 years old and had many friends and family members at his party. Those who attended were: Aleigh and Jorja Bessonett, Jacob and Ethan George, Rylee and Clay Krotky, Austin Williams, Forrest Davenport, Joe and Peggy Weatherly, and Patricia Fathke. His mother, Jenny, told me that everyone had a great time and she wanted to thank everyone for coming.
I’m thinking that Sep. 16 is a popular day to get married. I know of three couples who have an anniversary on that date. Happy Anniversary to Dwayne and Kathy Wren, Tim and Barbara Potts, and Dalyn and Bobby Beck. The Wrens have been married 37 years. Tim and Barbara Potts celebrated 31 years of marriage. Dalyn and Bobby were married 26 years ago.
If you see the Wilbur family you can congratulate them on the new addition to their family. John Derick Wilbur and Misty Wilbur’s daughter, Ava “Sugar” Wilbur, was born Sunday at 10:40 p.m. I have heard reports from several different people that the family is doing great and that Ava is one of the cutest babies they have ever seen! I’m sure her big sisters, Julie and Sarah, love their little sister. Alice, Johnny, and Holly Wilbur are probably pretty proud of their new granddaughter and niece too.
Miller Grove Volleyball girls played Fruitvale Tuesday afternoon. The junior high girls lost by a slim margin, but the varsity Lady Hornets put the sting on their opponents and brought home a victory. All of the girls played very well.
Parents, please remember that Tuesday the 22nd will be school picture day at MGISD.
Jean Wren has been in the hospital with pneumonia lately. There have been several people in the area with different sicknesses. I had a virus last week and felt like death warmed over. I hope no one else gets anything like what I had. Lindsey and Jace Potts’ little boy, Maddox, has been sick too.
