MILLER GROVE NEWS Jan. 29, 2014

Well, the month of January is just about gone. I’m hoping that things slow down a little bit in February but I’m thinking that will be a busy month for me as well. My new little nephew is supposed to be born Feb. 23, so I’m sure I will be quite busy the closer it gets to his delivery date.

Well, we’re basically half way through January now and I think I’m ready to fast forward to spring time. I’m already tired of the cold weather and ready for the daylight savings time to start.

News in “The Grove” is a little slow again this week. I know that makes for a boring news column but, on the bright side, at least there is no bad new to report; no sickness, no accidents and no deaths in the area.

After church Sunday, I was eating at Pizza Inn and noticed a few Miller Grove faces, but never had a chance to speak to them. I saw Elaine Garmon with her granddaughter, Kelsey Steele, and later noticed Carroll and Pat Ethridge.

Happy birthday this week to Heather Stuckey and Ginger Garrett on Jan. 12, Ashley (Blackstead) Oler and Lane Lennon on Jan. 13, Mary Lou (Woods) Hoover on Jan. 14, Misty Briggs on Jan. 16, and Clark May and Dalyn (Petty) Beck on Jan. 17.

Good luck to those of you who have made New Year’s resolutions for yourselves. I hope that you are able keep them this year. Personally, I don’t make them for myself anymore. I usually end up keeping the resolution for a week or two and then I’m right back to my old habits.

Not much news in the community this week. Miller Grove school had a teacher’s work day on Monday, Jan. 6 and classes for the second semester began on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

I have noticed going down FM 275 to Cumby that Ryan Claxton and his wife are building a new home. I know it will be very nice when it is finished.

Happy birthday this week to my sister-in-law, Madison Darrow and to Kelsey Steele on Jan. 6; Patsy (Johnson) Hallman on Jan. 9; T.S. Lamb, Kristi Burnett, Cletus Wise and Phyllis (Renshaw) Haywood on Jan. 10; and Vonda (McWilliams) Kerby on Jan. 11.

Happy 43rd anniversary to James and Pam Waskom on Jan. 9. Happy 55th wedding anniversary to my uncle and aunt, James and Margaret (Millsap) Ragan, on Jan. 10.

MILLER GROVE NEWS Jan. 3, 2014

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas with family and friends. The Sunday before Christmas, we had a get-together on my dad’s side of the family. It was nice to see a lot of the cousins that I don’t get to see every day; especially my cousin Clint Stucky who is on leave from the Army. I know many of you will know Clint’s grandmother, Claudia (McCutchen) Jones, and great-grandmother, Gay Nell Walls.

I will start out by saying Merry Christmas to everyone! It is definitely hard for me to believe that it is already time to celebrate our Savior’s birth. Sunday our church (Brashear Baptist) had a children’s Christmas program and everyone involved did an outstanding job, as always.
