Another crazy weather week here in Brashear. Can anyone remember a winter this crazy with the ups and down of temperatures. Just looked at the weather channel’s website. The forecast for the next few days is amazing, Warm days and moderate cool nights. The nights are going to be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than norm — Only in Texas, right?

Congratulations to the Lady Cats on their win against Lovejoy on Tuesday night. Onto the next round. Good luck.

The Brashear Baptist Youth have been busy. Last Sunday, they hosted a Valentine dinner and earned over $700 toward their summer camp. The next date to put on your calendar is March 1st. They will be having their annual stew and auction. If you would like to donate an auction item, please have it at the church by Wednesday, Feb. 26. The youth will be in the Family Life Building assembling the auction items.

Condolences to the Lynch family on the death of Carol. Carol was very special to our family for she was my mother’s caregiver. She spoiled my mother and we loved her very much.

P31 was brutal tonight, but to preface that I love it. We are growing and would love to more of you brave women come and join the fun. Remember that the first step toward change is the hardest. Nobody is watching you and our great trainer will help you make the most of the workout for each individual need.

Garden time is here. Tom got the garden ready last week. Now, we are hoping the south wind dries it out some before we plant on Valentine’s Day. We have planted in all kinds of weather before. One year, it was so muddy the mud sucked our shoes right off our feet. We lived in that black soil Great garden soil but wow it was messy when it was muddy.

Love listening to the Nice People Letters on KSST. I always knew Sulphur Springs had some great people but I am learning some amazing about some special people. Great thing that they do to recognize those that might never be recognized before.

Do not forget that Sharon’s BBQ and Grub Wagon is moving to the old Chunky Monkey Building on Church Street. Sharon has decided to move indoors for serving her great food. She will be offering some new items starting this Saturday. Looking forward to seeing the new location. Check it out for yourself.

I would like to shout out a big thanks to Michelle of Idzibitsy Bakery for all she is doing to make her business a success. She is a sponsor on the Wildcat card, helping out the community with the Nice People Award, and is always ready with new contests to get the word out about the Bakery. Watch for Idzibitsy Bakery on FB or check out the Brashear Bakery website.

Time for this old lady to get ready for a good book so I will close with my usual request.

How many of you here in Brashear love to read?

Thanks to John Sellers and his family; they have given me an idea. I would like to suggest maybe we build a spot to get books in Brashear. Little Free Library is the website and it gives an idea of building a receptacle to house books. I am asking because I would like this to happen here in Brashear.

BRASHEAR NEWS Jan. 15, 2014

The news is light this week. How many people heard the geese go over on Saturday morning around 8:55? I Cannot believe they were flying north. Seems too early for winter to be over. Especially after all of the cold the east coast has had. Who knows what Mother Nature has in store for us?

Elton Stewart called me on Monday and wanted to let everyone know that Jan. 16 is his 84th birthday. Happy Birthday Elton! Happy birthday to our awesome post mistress, Beverly Haygood. She always greets you with a smile, so today take the time to wish her a very special day. Love you, Beverly. Well, I do not know what birthday it is for Beverly, but you know a lady never tells.

Tom wanted everyone to know that is time to plant turnips. He planted his last week before all of the rain. We had 1.25-inches of rain. Thank you, Lord. Garden planting time is just around the corner. Potatoes and onion are always planted around Valentine’s Day at the Young house.

P31 has exploded in 2014. We had 20 in all on Monday night. We are off to a good start to working toward our goals of overall good health. Also, congratulations to Comfort Texas for starting a P31 there.

Remember to call me at 903-612-8806; email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or stop by and visit.
