LOS ANGELES (AP) — Like baseball, the Emmy Awards are a game of statistics: Long-running shows are able to pile up TV's top awards and new records year after year.

The 66th prime-time Emmys, airing at 8 p.m. EDT Monday on NBC with host Seth Meyers, are full of such possibilities, including a fifth best comedy series trophy for "Modern Family" that would tie it with all-time sitcom champ "Frasier."

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Schools in Ferguson welcomed back students from their summer breaks on Monday, providing the children with a much-needed break from the raucous street protests and police patrols that have gripped the St. Louis suburb since a white officer killed an unarmed black man more than two weeks ago.

Classes in the Ferguson-Florissant School District were scheduled to begin Aug. 14, five days after Michael Brown's shooting death. But subsequent demonstrations marred by frequent clashes between police and demonstrators led to several delays in the start date. The district serves about 11,000 students from the two northern St. Louis County communities.

The suspects were identified by law enforcement officials and family members as Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, brothers from a Russian region near Chechnya, which has been plagued by an Islamic insurgency that has carried out deadly bombings. They lived near Boston and had been in the U.S. for about a decade, an uncle said.

NEW YORK (AP) — By today's politically polarized standards, the Supreme Court's momentous Roe v. Wade ruling was a landslide. By a 7-2 vote on Jan. 22, 1973, the justices established a nationwide right to abortion.
Forty years and roughly 55 million abortions later, however, the ruling's legacy is the opposite of consensus. Abortion ranks as one of the most intractably divisive issues in America, and is likely to remain so as rival camps of true believers see little space for common ground.
