Sweetwater man in custody, suspected in several thefts

A Sweetwater man in custody Monday morning for a home burglary and horse trailer theft Friday night, also is charged in connection with two home burglaries in Runnels County and is believed to be tied to a string of other offenses spanning from Hopkins County to West Texas.

Hopkins County Grand Jury approved 17 indictments against 11 people during its Dec. 8 session. Charges included aggravated robbery, engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of a marijuana and controlled substances.

Local man sentenced under new law: Assault included choking, raising charge to 3rd degree felony

Hopkins County prosecutors, using a new law that became effective last January, saw a 24-year-old Sulphur Springs man sentenced to prison Monday morning in Judge Robert Newsom’s 8th Judicial District Court.
