County officials called to Austin by jail standards board

Hopkins County Commissioners Court members will be required to appear before will appear before the Texas Commission on Jail Standards on Thursday to address continued overcrowding at the county jail, as well other issues cited during a September inspection.

Fall Festival board busy preparing for ‘Your County Fair’

Time is really creeping up fast for the 40th Annual Fall Festival. A lot of the events are confirmed, with some still in the planning stages. One deadline coming up pretty quick is the 40th Anniversary Hopkins County Fall Festival Cookbook. Cindy Smithers, who is chairperson of this event, is asking that all submissions be in her hands no later than May 15. This will give her time to organize the recipes into the various sections and get it to print so it can be available prior to the opening day of the Festival. SSISD officials hope to lift restriction on out-of-town field trips soon

School officials remain cautious about the possibility of a swine flu outbreak in Sulphur Springs but are hoping that restrictions on out-of-town trips can be lifted next week.
