SSHS High School Band earns first division ratings

Despite lack of practice time and soggy weather, the Sulphur Springs High School Band kicked off the competition season with first division ratings last Saturday.

Russell Walters Jr. named his younger brother, John Walters, as his shooter before he died, a sheriff's investigator and first responder both testified Tuesday afternoon during the second day of testimony in John Walters' murder retrial. A longtime acquaintance of the Walters family also said the defendant mentioned killing his brother six days prior to Russell's death.


Sheriff asks for help catching ‘mudders,’ sign thieves

County residents are asked to be on the look out for anyone who might be damaging or stealing county road signs or mudding on county roads. According to Sheriff Butch Adams, his office has received reports of problems with both recently. So far, reports of stolen or damaged road signs have been centered primarily in Precinct 2, the southeast part of the county.


Hopkins County residents fall victim to craigslist scams

County residents are being warned by sheriff's officers of another Internet scam which a few county residents have already become the victims of. The scam involves payment for items advertised on craigslist by false or bad checks.
