The first stages of construction of the multipurpose building at Sulphur Springs High School are under way, although going a bit slower than originally planned due to the weather, school officials said this week.

But time is growing short for nominations for both the Citizen of the Year and Caregiver of the Year awards, which will be presented at the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Membership Banquet, scheduled to begin this year at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Hopkins County Civic Center.
Excitement is building for the 4th annual Lights of Life Gala, the annual benefit presented by the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation that helps to improve local health care. The gala, which will begin at 6 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, is again sold out, according to Jackie Thornton, executive director of the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation.
Tax Aide, the tax preparation service offered free to Hopkins County area residents for many years, is in need of help. “This year I’m very short on volunteers,” said long-time volunteer and program chairperson Cheryl Spears. “I need a few more.”
