Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education agents gave Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office top marks during their regular evaluation of the department’s training records.
Three Sulphur Springs High School cheerleading squads recently came home with a total of seven awards, earned national bids and had 12 members named to the All-American Team during the National Cheer Association Summer Camp. One girl took top honors for being the highest scoring All-American Team member at camp.
With the hottest days of summer dogging utility bills, City Manager Marc Maxwell suggests it may be a good time for local homeowners to review the rates they pay for electricity. “There are currently seven fixed-rate plans available in our area for 10 cents per kilowatt hour or less, and that price is guaranteed for 12 months,” says Maxwell. “Compare that price with the average cost per kilowatt hour listed on your bill. Some consumers can save 40 percent or more just by switching to a more competitive plan.”
Sulphur Springs High School received an “unacceptable” score in the latest round of accountability ratings but came within three students passing a TAKS science tests of receiving an acceptable accountability ranking.
Six of the eight school districts serving Hopkins County students received “recognized” ratings for the 2009 school year, according to reports released Friday by Texas Education Agency. Four individual schools received the highest possible marks.
