Shoes for Souls donation

East Texas Goes Green

“East Texas Goes Green” supporters Collyn McClendon, Eric Austin, Jim Roberts, Jeff Post, Jim Heifferich, Dawn Morgan, Moose Morgan, Alex Hammons  and Lindsey Watkins gather for a photo during the event Saturday. In an effort to bring environmental consciousness to the citizens of Hopkins County, a group of companies including State Farm Insurance and Farmers Electric Cooperative gathered to give advice on going green, collected paper and computer monitors to recycle, and sold merchandise at a discounted rates. The participants hope this becomes an annual affair.

SSHS UIL team does ‘very well’ at state meet

Sulphur Springs High School had four students place and two teams recognized for their accomplishments at the State Academic University Interscholastic League Meet last week in Austin.

Lindsey Lemon and Robert Anderson were announced during Thursday evening’s awards program as this year’s top graduates for Cumby High School.  Kyle Barnett and Taylor Gifford have also been recognized as the top eighth grade students this year.


Cumby fire damages 2 Mill Street houses

An early morning blaze at an abandoned Cumby house Saturday burned so hot it melted the vinyl siding on the residence next door.
