First Joe Minter Education Awards set for May 2 at Como-Pickton

Thirty students and educators will be honored Saturday, May 2, by East Texas African American Leadership Conference during the 1st Annual Dr. Joe Minter Education Awards Ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Como-Pickton school secondary cafeteria.

On Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m., some beautiful melodies will be wafting from the wings of Mount Vernon Music Hall at 402 Leftwich.


Honoring Earth Day

Como-Pickton fifth grade students Michael Ratcliff, Tanner Childers and Michael Pruitt stand next to a Leyland Cyprus tree they planted in the school’s outdoor classroom on Earth Day. The tree will be cared for by first and fifth grade members of the “buddy” program in which students of different ages are paired up to work on school projects.

Good Kids doing Fun Things

Sulphur Bluff Independent School District stacker winners are Lydia Burleson, Hailey Halbert, Dylan Foster, and Lacy Calhoun finished in the shortest amount of time in the school's second stacking contest this year.

Students awarded Bery Best Bears for April were Sarah Harper, Keyara Wafe, Tyler Kelley, Emily Guagjardo, and Ricky Taylor.
