April 15 deadline to submit photos for Relay show

Most Hopkins County residents know at least one person — whether family, friend, co-worker or neighbor — who is fighting cancer or has battled the disease in the past. Hopkins County Relay For Life honors these individuals each year during the annual 12-hour walk to raise money for families dealing with cancer as well as research for a cure.

Honoring Cooper’s hometown hero

Delta County Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Robertson (left) was honored Saturday, April 10, for his outstanding bravery and heroism during a March 7 shooting at the Commerce Wal-Mart. The ceremony was held at 3 p.m. on the Cooper Square in conjunction with the Cooper VFD Bike Rally. Mark Brandt opened the ceremony by singing the “Star Spangled Banner.” Above, County Judge Ted Carrington commends Robertson, saying “God kept him safe and carried him through.” Cooper City Councilman E.J. Cates proclaimed April 10 “Paul Robertson Day” and then gave Sgt. Robertson the key to the city.
