County crime rate lowest in three years: Assaults and auto thefts on the decline

The crime rate in Hopkins County has hit a three-year low for the first half of the year, with only 150 crimes reported this year as increases in burglaries and thefts were offset by declines in aggravated assaults and stolen vehicles.

The festival ran Friday and Saturday with performances by many bluegrass ensembles, including Hickory Hill and The Wildwood Valley Boys.

Hot August Nights

Brittany Wilson, Dawn Morgan and Golden K Kiwanis Club President C.J. Duffey promote Hot August Nights Barbecue Cook-Off. Events begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Hopkins County Regional Civic Center and will benefit Hopkins County Volunteer Fire Departments. Entrance and meals wristbands can be pre-purchased at STAR Country Radio, volunteer fire departments and the civic center for $10.
