Learning the drill

Fire recruits put their hose and ladder skills to the test Monday in the two-story burn house at the Northeast Texas Fire & EMS Training Academy Drill Field Monday. Recruits in the basic firefighting certification course have been undergoing “real world” training, a week of hands-on practice and skills review designed to give them a taste of what life on the job’s actually like at a fire station. The firefighters were put through the paces with “live burns” at the drill field, including a one and two-story burn house.

Three people were taken into custody, two on felony charges, following a pursuit of a vehicle which fled an accident scene concluded on East Beckham Street where officers from city, county and state agencies were called to assist after a crowd surrounded the vehicle.
