Outlook sunny for annual Hopkins County United Way Fund Drive

Zach Glenn gave not only a short-term weather forecast for this area Tuesday but joined John Sellers and Debra Evans in forecasting success for the 2009 United Way campaign which will help hundreds, maybe even thousands, of Hopkins County residents over the course of the next year.


Fund drive’s $150,000 goal will aid 17 agencies

Hopkins County United Way kicked off its 55th fund drive by recognizing the top businesses that contributed to the 2008-2009 fund-raising campaign and unveiled its 2009-2010 campaign goals and the agencies it will be assisting.

Rise in number of jobs for local residents keeps Hopkins County's unemployment rate lowest in area

Texas lost more jobs than any other U.S. state in August, but employers in Hopkins County did their part to keep people off the jobless rolls last month. Thanks to a rise in the number of jobs available to Hopkins County residents, the unemployment rate for August was 6.4 percent, well below the 8 percent reported by the state of Texas. Moreover, the local rate is dwarfed by the national average of 9.7 percent.
