Fall Festival: Why we do what we do

With all the exciting things happening around Hopkins County, we must not forget the upcoming 40th Anniversary Hopkins County Fall Festival beginning on Sept. 12. Looks like it is going to be a long hot summer in Texas and outdoor activity will be challenging. Gas prices are soaring. There is a mortgage crisis and a soft economy to consider.

Hopkins County’s population consists of an inordinate number of mature residents, who give generously of their time and resources to help others. Just look at the number of retirees and senior citizens who volunteer their services to help at the hospital, Senior Citizens Center and other deserving organizations throughout the city.

Gubernatorial candidate Schieffer makes brief campaign stop in Hopkins County

Tom Schieffer was in Sulphur Springs Friday evening as part of a statewide tour kicking off his campaign to run for governor on the Democratic Party ticket in 2010. Schieffer was the guest of honor at a reception in the home of Patsy Bennett.
