The three-day United Professional Rodeo Association Spring Membership Rodeo, the season opener held at Hopkins County Regional Civic Center each year for the past 30 years, concluded Saturday with a lot of cash handed out to winners — nearly $76,000 overall. The largest single cash prize awarded in a contest over the weekend was, $2,062.56, for first place.
A Hopkins County Grand Jury, during its February session, approved at least 96 indictments against 75 individuals. The offenses ranged from fraud, theft and controlled substance charges to sex offenses, drunk driving with a child in the car, aggravated assault and murder.
The Hopkins County Junior Market Show was held Feb. 26-28 at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. Congratulations go out to the following 31 youths, members of Hopkins County 4-H who qualified for the Sale of Champions:
Larry Spradlin, 55, has been the heart of the Hopkins County agriculture community for the last 14 years. Spradlin, no stranger to education or the industry, will be leaving his role as Texas AgriLife Extension Service agriculture agent at the end of March.
