Police testify in first day of Colbert trial

Prosecutors called police investigators to testify during the first day in the trial of 30-year-old Elijah Lorenzo Colbert, accused of aggravated robbery and burglary.

Colbert is alleged to have been one of at least three people who forced their way into a South Locust Street residence in October 2008, and stole at least one of the two male resident victim’s wallet and checkbook. One of the men was said to be mentally handicapped. Colbert also is alleged to have been involved a few days later in the burglary of a pawn shop, from which three guns were stolen.

Monday afternoon Sulphur Springs Police Investigator Bo Fox testified to receiving three tips from Crime Stoppers which led to the recovery of the guns as well as the stolen wallet and checkbook. The first tip on Oct. 21 was about the aggravated robbery, and identified potential suspects by their “street names.”  The second tip was about the pawn shop theft and robbery.

Investigators began searching for one suspect and were told by patrol officers that he was known to frequent a Carter Street residence. Based on addtional information they received, a

Filing for trustees seats got under way slowly Monday at four of the five local school districts — Como-Pickton, Cumby, North Hopkins and Yantis  — set to elect new board members in May.
