The Hopkins County Community Action Network is taking “a huge load” off of the Empty Stocking project volunteers as well as the men and women of law enforcement behind the annual Blue Santa program.


Two dozen to be honored at 3rd Annual Bill Dirks Awards on April 14

Approximately two dozen law enforcement officers and members of the legal community will be honored Saturday in a special program named in honor of Hopkins County’s first African American sheriff.


For The Kids And Our Friend: Toy run raises more than $2,000

Friends of Scott Gorton and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8560 Saturday collected “loads of toys” (shown above) for the VFW’s annual Christmas toy drive and raised more than $2,000 in cash during the benefit and toy ride. Proceeds from the poker ride will help Scott Gorton (standing left of center, with cane) with medical expenses incurred since he was involved in a vehicle crash Sept. 4. Gorton’s family thanks the “awesome community that never ceases to amaze [by] coming together for others” for the event’s success.
