County officials hope state jail commission lifts year-old remedial order

Hopkins County officials were leaving today for Austin where they will find out Thursday whether or not a remedial order on the county jail will be lifted.

Registration for Angel Tree program begins this Friday, Nov. 7

Each year, Hopkins County Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program literally assists hundreds of families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford Christmas gifts for their children. Last year, for example, the number helped exceeded 300, according to Hopkins County Salvation Army Chair Jo Marie Neal.


TxDoT approves $4.3 million grant for municipal airport

The Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport is getting a $4.3 million grant from Texas Department of Transportation to upgrade the facility’s runway and lighting, and solidify its position as one of the best aircraft destinations in the region.


Together We Can: United Way Exceeds Goal

Campaign officials weren’t sure until the very last tally Tuesday, what with reports of some contributors unable to give this year, but the people and businesses of Hopkins County once again came through for Hopkins County United Way and the 17 agencies it assists with a number of them giving over their goal to help make up for those who just weren’t financially able to give this year.
