Local man sentenced under new law: Assault included choking, raising charge to 3rd degree felony

Hopkins County prosecutors, using a new law that became effective last January, saw a 24-year-old Sulphur Springs man sentenced to prison Monday morning in Judge Robert Newsom’s 8th Judicial District Court.

Fire damages one home, destroys another

County firefighters battled two house fires Friday night — a mobile home fire which caused significant damage to a Reilly Springs family’s belongings and a blaze which destroyed a wood frame house in Miller Grove. No one was injured, but the Red Cross was called to assist the Reilly Springs family.
