One case of H1N1 virus confirmed at SSISD; superintendent says there’s ‘absolutely no need to panic’

Sulphur Springs Independent School District officials announced its first case of the H1N1 virus — or swine flu — this week after a child at the Early Childhood Learning Center received a confirmed diagnosis.


Antique tractors return to Fall Festival Sept. 19

Antique tractors are returning to the Hopkins County Fall Festival this year as the Lake Country Antique Tractor Association gears up for the 4th annual tractor pull at the Hopkins Count Regional Civic Center in the air conditioned indoor arena on Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuting until 4 p.m.

Come 'Back' Reminder

Students at Bowie Elementary School listen to Boy Scouts Pack 77 den leaders as they talk abut the benefits of being a Boy Scout. A Boy Scouts rally will be held at Lamar and Bowie elementary schools tonight at 7 p.m. A reminder to attend the event was attached on every boy’s back. At the rally, the boys and parents can learn about and join Boy Scouts of America. Another rally will be held at Travis Elementary School at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Terrific Tuesdays fun

First United Methodist Church’s Terrific Tuesdays’ newest member, Jonnie Latimer, shows Iris Gabrielse a wooden school bus he created this morning at Lowe’s while Louise Voss puts together a puzzle. The club, an adult respite program for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, meets every Tuesday in the Family Life Center of the church, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is included.
