Suspect in I-30 robberies arrested in Arkansas

Authorities in Arkansas have arrested a Little Rock man in connection with an incident in Sulphur Springs in June in which a person who identified himself as a police officer robbed several construction workers who were on the side of Interstate 30 having problems with their car.


Street projects due to begin this month

In his routine report to the city council Tuesday evening, City Manager Marc Maxwell presented an update on the summer paving program as well as city projects that are currently under way and planned.

Maxwell said he visited with the contractor who would be doing the annual summer paving program. 


Council gives nod to zoning change, tax rate

Construction of a new retail business took another step forward Tuesday evening when City Council members approved a change in the zoning of property at 810 Gilmer St. from heavy commercial to light commercial.


New storytime at SS Library

Sulphur Springs Public Library announces a new Storytime beginning Sept. 4 in the Storytime room at the library at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Fridays of every month through May.

The Very Ready Reading Program for preschoolers and their parent/caregiver uses books, music and activities to encourage the lifelong benefits of early literacy for your child.


Hospital board balances budget, keeps tax rate same

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors approved the hospital’s 2016 fiscal year budget, with a projected $81,204 in the black. After approving essentially a break even budget, the board OKed the tax rate, which will remain at 25-cents per $100 property valuation.
