Wildcats lose three turnovers and the game

As is the case in many games between equally-matched teams, turnovers played a big role in the outcome between Sulphur Springs and Denton Ryan on Friday night. The unusual part is that only one of the Wildcats’ three turnovers came from its offense.

Friday afternoon in a home match, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cat varsity lost to Princeton by scores of 16-25, 25-27, 19-25 at the SSHS gym.

The Lady Panthers rolled to a 25-16 win in game 1 getting on a hot streak to score the final five consecutive points with steady serving. The pivotal game turned out to be the second contest.


Panthers play lights out over Trojans

CUMBY — Maybe it was the curse of the ill-fated lights or opening night nerves, call it what you will — it was the Cumby Trojans that chalked up a 26-0 loss at Frazier-Lawrence Field Friday night against the Alba-Golden Panthers.

“We need to execute,” said Cumby Trojan head football coach Ed Perez after the game. “We have to learn to overcome adversity. We are a young team.”


C-P Eagles ring in season with 42-7 win over A-G

CELESTE — It was a 100-yard night for Como-Pickton Eagle sophomore running back Bryce Steele in the 42-7 win over the hosting Celeste Blue Devils Friday.

Steele along with several other Eagles including sophomore Matthew Sharp, juniors Brodie Ogle and Trevor Cagle, senior Zack Carpenter racked up 221 rushing yards for the victorious night.


Cooper takes sweet win over Honey Grove

COOPER — It was perfect football weather. It was the perfect start to the 2010 season for the Cooper Bulldogs as the defeated the visiting Honey Grove squad 43-18.
