Kicking Up Their Heels -- Local ATA students look to chop down competition

Sulphur Springs ATA Martial Arts Academy has made great strides with their students, Calvin Perry, Cristina Perry, Joshua Schwen, and chief ATA certified instructor Daron Bilyeu, also a second-degree Black Belt.

These ATA (American Taekwondo Association) athletes join the Top Ten Qualifiers, along side their accomplishments were 2009 Texas State Champions Calvin Perry, Christina Shadix, and Bilyeu.

The Dodgers, sponsored by NET Data, claimed the Farm League Citychampionship by virtue of their 3-2 victory over the Red Sox in the finals. The Dodgers put together a perfect season, finishing 16-0.  Team members are kneeling from left, front row,  Arien Jeboneta, Ty Latham, Joey Feaster, Clayton Hill, Dylan Joiner, Shawn Porter.  Standing on the back row,  Ryan Humphries, Gideon Gregory, Tyrese Pryor, Cameron Davis, Stone Richardson, Dakota Watkins and Triston McCormick.  Coaches are Tory Humphries and Shane McCormick.

‘The Edge’ challenge -- Sulphur Springs athletes of all sizes buying into conditioning program

Just over 10 hours into "The Edge" program and the results are very positive.

The conditioning program being conducted from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday is drawing good crowds and nice results according to participants and coaches.

Coach Rodney Flowers said attendance has been between 120 and 140 most days. Even rain and a threat of lightning did not dampen the enthusiasm of the 2009 group.
