District 17-A baseball scores

Cumby edges Yantis, 7-6

CUMBY — The Cumby Trojans rallied from a 6-3 deficit to end their regular season with a come-from-behind victory over the Yantis Owls on Senior Day at Trojan field.

“Rodney Hobbs shot an 2-0 fastball up the middle between shortstop and second to drive in the Levi Wooten with the winning run,” Cumby Trojan head baseball coach Scott Mabe said. “Hobbs was two for four on the day. Donnie Rodriguez tied the game in the sixth inning with a line drive two RBI double off the left field wall to set the stage for Hobbs heroics.”


Making Tracks To Regional: Sulphur Springs athletes compete in Denton, May 3-4

The regional track meet is coming at a good time for the Sulphur Springs athletes.

The Wildcats and Lady Cats who will compete in the meet are just like many other athletes around the state, they are ready for a break from TAKS testing.

The regional meet, slated for May 3-4 in Denton at the University of North Texas, will be a welcome break for students who have been undergoing pressure-filled tests.


Lady Cats face Henderson in playoffs

It’s playoff time again and the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats are right where they hoped they would be.

Sulphur Springs head softball coach David Carrillo said he stopped worrying about all the seeds and matchups and decided to just take them one at time.

“If you’re good you will get to play them all anyway. There’s no real team we want to avoid, our biggest goal was just making the playoffs,” Carrillo said. “We’ve been blessed enough to make the playoffs, so let’s just see what happens.”


Surging Wildcats on verge of playoff berth

Just in the nick of time the Wildcats put together good hitting games and the wins started coming.

Six games ago the squad had a losing record in district and coming off a tough 2-1 loss to Marshall.

Then came an the turnaround, a 15-8 road loss to Hallsville. The game was a loss, but the Wildcats got 13 hits and proved they were a scrappy team.


Playoffs set tonight for NH, SB girls

The Lady Panthers (10-7) meet Celeste at 7 p.m. Friday at Commerce High School in the bi-district  playoffs. Celeste is from district 11-A.

The North Hopkins Lady Panthers took second in the District 12-A race. They scored a recent 5-4 win over Bland in a warm-up game.
