Wildcats pound Lobos for first district win

LONGVIEW — On this night the Wildcats were a perfect 10 on the baseball diamond.

Not to be confused with Bo Derek, but the 7-0 win by Sulphur Springs was a sight for sore eyes.

Especially after starting district with a six-error 5-1 loss to Pine Tree.


Cumby teams dominate Gateway meet

GATEWAY - Both the varsity girls and boys teams for Cumby dominated last Saturday's meet hosted by Dallas Gateway. The Lady Trojans took first with 142 points with Irving Universal as second with 87 and the host team was third with 75. The Trojans finished at the top scoring 106 points for Cumby over the host school with 93 and third place Home School Association with 90 points.


Cumby 'lifter medals at State

Cumby Lady Trojan Ashley Anderson received a fifth place medal in powerlifting at State competition for Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association at Corpus Christi. Anderson is coached by Gary Parrish. Parrish was very proud of how Anderson competed. "I work with awesome kids," he said.

Losing Streak Snapped -- Lady Cats pound Longview 16-0 for first District 13-4A softball win

LONGVIEW — There’s all kinds of ways to end a slump.

At times it ends with a simple bloop hit, other times teams can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The Lady Cats had a better plan, they went wild with their aluminum sticks. They pounded out 26 hits as they took a 16-0 rout over the Lady Lobos. The win snapped a three-game district losing streak by the Lady Cats.

The Wildcats hope the winning is just beginning.

Sulphur Springs opened the District 13-4A with a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Pine Tree Pirates.

The Wildcats get back on the diamond today with a 7 p.m. matchup against Longview.
