Now Or Never; Sulphur Springs, Hallsville do battle Friday for final district playoff berth

Perhaps when the 10th week of football season rolls around and all the playoff slots are not decided - you can quote or sing Elvis Presley.

It really is now or never for Sulphur Springs and Hallsville as they collide Friday at Bobcat Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams are 2-3 in district play and coming off defeats. But they are still alive for the big prize. Hanging in the balance - the big reward is the final District 13-4A playoff berth.

While Elvis sang “It’s now or never,” Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens has deemed the game a “do or die” contest.

C-P Eagles want to seal season with win

COMO — It will be the final night of high school football for the nine Como-Pickton Eagle seniors. Their goal is to walk away from Ron Heflin Field on Friday with a sweet Senior Night victory, as they are favored against the visiting Alba-Golden Panthers.

“These kids were the first group I coached here at Como-Pickton as an assistant,” recalled Como-Pickton Eagles head football coach Paul Tullis. “They have always been a spirited and hard working bunch that likes to play the game. They have competed hard and accomplished some good things that have set a solid foundation for the future here at Como-Pickton.” Senior football players include: Brandt Steele, Joseph Thornhill, Jeff Hendricks, Corey Gibson, James Carter, Hunter Cooksey, Matthew Ford, Robert Carden, and Merced Ramirez.

Tough night on the court; Miller Grove, North Hopkins drop hard-fought volleyball matches

PATTONVILLE — Two District 18-1A volleyball teams went down in spirited bi-district action played here Tuesday night at Prairiland High School.

The Miller Grove Lady Hornets saw their season end in a marathon five-set battle against James Bowie.

Do or die for Wildcats

The jigsaw puzzle known as District 13-4A is almost solved.

The final playoff piece will fall into place Friday when Sulphur Springs takes on Hallsville at 7:30 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.

Hallsville and Sulphur Springs are fighting for the number two small school seed in the playoffs, or fourth place in the district.
