Ector Eagles soar by Saltillo

COMMERCE — The bi-district game in Commerce High School’s gym, though exciting, ended in disappointment for the Saltillo Lions.

Even though they were competitive throughout and played with heart, they were ultimately outlasted by their opponents, the Ector Eagles, 76-47.

Sulphur Bluff Bears suffer early exit from hoop playoffs

PRAIRILAND — The Sulphur Bluff Bears ended their season in a bi-district bout with the Roxton Lions Monday night in Prairiland.

The Lions advanced to the next round with a 70-41 finish against the Bears and will face Slocum in Class 1A Division II Area competition.

“We played a very good and quick Roxton team last night,” said Marshall Moore, Sulphur Bluff Bears head basketball coach. “They had two really, good seniors that played very well for them. I expected their two seniors White and Stephanson to have a good game, but they also had a couple of freshmen that played really good defense and came up with easy baskets in transition.”

Shayne Wilson posts 769 series during Sunday competition

Shayne Wilson posted one of eleven 700 series this week during the Sunday Night Mixed league with his 769 scratch set.  Wilson, who carries the high average for Classic Lanes with 238, fired games of 257, 275 and 237 to finish the night 55 pins above his average for series.Wilson led his team, Reloaded, to sweep their opponents four games.

Wildcats win powerlifting title

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats did well in their own meet Saturday edging out Lindale to win the boys division.

“Josue Leon  (114-pound class), Justin Gunderson - (123-pound class), Taylor Link (132-pound class), Johnathan Carlisle (148-pound class), J.R. Rivera - (148 and 165-pound division), Cody Kalb (165-pound class), Joe Scott - (18l-pound class), Andrew Burton (242 and 275-pound class), Mason Y'Barbo (Super heavy weight class). All these guys have qualified for regionals in powerlifting or as an alternate lifter if someone moves up, down, or doesn't make weight,” said Sulphur Springs powerlifting coach William Blaylock.

The Wildcats were to play at Paris North Lamar Tuesday with games at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
