    Jaylon Dugan and Cain Cody combined for 35 points and 22 rebounds to pace the Sulphur Springs Wildcats to a 48-47 win over Wills Point.
    The Tuesday night game was not only the season opener for the Wildcats, but the first win by new head coach Clark Cipoletta.

    Several area basketball teams were in action with the following scores reported by coaches.
Saltillo varsity
clips Avery, 47-43
    AVERY — Balanced scoring powered the Saltillo Lions to a 47-43 win over Avery here in recent non-district hoop action.
    Edward Jaime was high point for the lions in the closely-contested battle.
    In junior varsity action, Avery took a 47-19 win.

    UNION GROVE — The Como-Pickton Eagles defeated McLeod, 34-31 to win the boys championship title in th recent Union Grove basketball tournament.
    In the win, six players got in on the scoring for the Eagles.
