Wildcats, Lady Cats in tournament play

The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will resume play Thursday morning in pool play of the Edgewood Tournament.

They will take on Hawkins at 8:30 a.m. and then play the host team, Edgewood, at 1:30 p.m. Depending on how they finish in their pool, the Lady Cats will play either Friday evening in the consolation bracket or Saturday in the championship bracket.

Lone Oak defeats Cumby

The Cumby Lady Trojans were downed by the Lone Oak Lady Buffs in recent hoop action 50-27.


Overtime victors: Sulphur Springs beats NL in extra stanza

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats won their third game in a row, hitting clutch shots in overtime to edge North Lamar, 69-64 in non-district basketball action Tuesday night.

The Panthers scored late to tie the game at 59-all and force overtime. During the extra four minute stanza, the Wildcats got four points from Kadarian Wright as the Sulphur Springs squad outscored the visitors 10 to 5.


Lady Cats popped by Paris, 52-31

PARIS – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats got a late start to Tuesday’s game against Paris, and never could get caught up.

It took the Lady Cats almost 10 minutes before they made a field goal and by that time had dropped into a 20-point hole en route to a 52-31 loss.

SSHS went 0-for-6 from the field with 10 turnovers before junior Reagan Humphrey took an entry pass from Marissa Walter in the post and hit a turnover jumper with 1:50 gone in the second quarter. By that time, Paris had built a 24-4 lead.

Cumby falls to Detroit

DETROIT — The Cumby Trojans fell to the hosting Detroit Eagles Tuesday night.

The Trojans fell behind early in hoop action and were not able to recover in the 50-31 final. Scoring 10 points for the Trojans was leading scorer David Hebert.
