Lady Cats fall against Greenville

The Greenville Lady Lions got key points when they needed them and took a three-game sweep over Sulphur Springs in 13-4A volleyball action Friday at the SSHS gym.

When the two teams met earlier in the year at Greenville, Sulphur Springs played well taking the match to five games in a marathon contest lasting two hours. Greenville hung on to win that match and they won in straight games to sweep the series 25-22, 25-16, 25-17.

Cooper clips Paris Chisum using balanced grid attack

PARIS — The Cooper Bulldogs made their mark on District 7-2A Division II with a 34-13 win at Paris Chisum.

The Bulldogs got 174 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown from Montrel Robertson to pace the ground game. Cooper quarterback Ty Huie completed six of 12 passes for 70 yards with one touchdown.

DE KALB — After a one and half hour one-way trip, the Como-Pickton Eagles had their road game success dashed by the hosting De Kalb Bears, 27-23.

Winnsboro edged 28-26 by Mineola in 7-2A opener

WINNSBORO — Unfortunately in football it doesn't count to be close. The hosting Winnsboro Red Raiders fell to the Mineola Yellowjackets to open District 7-2A play Friday night, 28-26.

The margin of victory came off the toe of extra-point kicker Matt Shade of Mineola.
