Track meets proceed despite weather

Rings, rings and more rings.

The ringing noise was easy to explain.

That loud ring Friday morning was the sound of the State Class 4A Division II Football Championship rings being presented to Wildcats players, coaches and trainers at the conference room of Sulphur Springs High School.

Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens spoke to the group at the short ceremony. He said, “They were here to get a momento they will have the rest of their life.”

Turley, T. High blank the Wildcats

TEXARKANA — The second trip to Texas High this week was just as fruitless as the first one.

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats fell 3-0 to Texas High Thursday in a baseball game originally started on Tuesday, but scrubbed by rain and lightning. The teams tried to play Wednesday only to see the game postponed.

The left arm of Josh Turley proved just as wicked as the spring weather in East Texas.

Turley pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 15 and allowed three hits to the Wildcats.

Middle school boys first at Commerce track meet

COMMERCE  — The Sulphur Springs middle school boys won two first place divisions in the recent Commerce track meet.
The eighth grade boys were first overall with 199.5 points while the seventh grade boys took first, scoring 174.5 points.
