It was a bit unexpected but understandable.

After 19 years at the helm of North Hopkins athletic program, head cross country/track and girls basketball coach Tim Menke has taken a position at Ballinger.

“He is a good guy,” said fellow coach and elementary principal Jim Westbrook. “We hated to see him leave. I tried to convince him to stay and get in his 20 years. He really took care of business, but we understand he has land in Shiner and has always wanted to eventually relocate to the hill country.”

Wildcats intense in intrasquad scrimmage

Sulphur Springs began football workouts Monday in T-shirts and shorts and ended the week Friday with an intrasquad scrimmage, complete with pads.
“It was a very good first week. A ton of stuff to work on, all the little details – especially playing low, everyone is too high. It is only day one of pads and we have a long way to go, but I like our talent level and the kids willingness to want to get better,” said Wildcats head football coach Greg Owens.

’Cats Popping Pads

After four days of just wearing shorts, T-shirts and helmets, the addition of pads was a welcome change.

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats, like teams around the state, were allowed to hold contact drills today for the first time putting on shoulder and other pads.
