Lady Cats win twice in Frisco Tournament

FRISCO — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats took two big wins in Friday softball action in the Frisco Tournament.

The Lady Cats edged Mesquite Poteet 2-1 in afternoon action. In the second game of the day, Sulphur Springs rolled to a 7-4 win over Frisco, the host school.

Suphur Springs assistant coach Eric Buck said, “The girls played great.”


City Champions

The Ducks, sponsored by NET Data, claimed the third/fourth grade City Basketball Championship. The Ducks capped off their perfect 10-0 season with a 47-28 victory over Alliance Bank in the championship game. Team members are: (from left):  Coach Tory Humphries, Ryan Humphries, Trey Sims, Christian Huff, Jace Link, Joseph Baxley, Ivan Clayton, Simeon Taylor and Coach Curtis Clayton.

Sixth Grade City Champs

The Mountaineers, sponsored by NET Data, claimed the fifth/sixth grade City Basketball Championship. Wildcats smash Seagoville, 10-0

MESQUITE – The Sulphur Springs Wildcats opened the Mesquite tournament with a 10-0 win over Seagoville.

Mason Morton got a complete game win, throwing six scoreless innings. He fanned 10, walked none, hitting two batters facing 22 batters. Morton also has a spark at the plate with a an RBI single and a solo homer.


Panthers release Damione Lewis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers cut veteran defensive tackle Damione Lewis on Thursday, further depleting their line in a move that shaves another $5 million off their rapidly shrinking payroll.
