SS Lady Cats lose to Hallsville

The second try for a district win had the same result as the first one.

For the second time in a week, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats lost a District 13-4A game at home.

Hallsville extended their district record to 2-0 (11-6 overall) with a 77-30 win Friday night at the SSHS gym.

The big jolt for Sulphur Springs (1-13, 0-2) was falling behind 44-13 at the half, giving up 24 points while just scoring six in the second quarter.

The visitors had four players in double figures. Darby Graff and Ashley Barry led with 17 points each, the pair was also the leading rebounders combining for 11. Megan McGuire scored 15 and Kaci Jackson added 14 in the big win for the visiting Ladycats.

Prairiland downs Cumby in OT and other area scores

PRAIRILAND — The Cumby Trojan teams spent the first night of their holiday vacation with a road game to Prairiland. Heating the hardwoods, Cumby suffered a two-point loss to the hosting Patriots in overtime hoop action, 63-61.

Taking 20 points was Trojan senior Timmy Cook as the leading scorer. Cook pulled down 10 from the basket, assisted with nine, and had five steals.

Lawson Kempo Karate students competed recently at the state tournament in Austin, Dec. 11-12 in Austin. Students are from left, Melony Huffman, Luke Metzel, Chase Williams, Brazos Kight and instructor Donald Lawson of Winnsboro. Metzel was third in sparring; Williams was third in sparring and Kata.
