Saltillo softball scores

SALTILLO — The No. 7-state ranked Saltillo Lady Lions starting the season Thursday at the North Hopkin Tournament. The team got a late start of softball due to making regional in basketball.
The Lady Lions took a 7-3 win over Commerce. Winning pitcher was Kirsten McLane She also had her first home run of the season and a double going 2-for-3.
Getting base hits were  Regan Martin, Kimber Thompson, Karli Brewer, Courtney Goldsmith, Brooke Lane and Alexsa Burkett.
The Lady Lions rolled to a 17-4 win over Avery.    Karli Brewer was the winning pitcher. Also pitching were Chanda Neal and McLane. McLane still with a hot bat went 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Courtney Goldsmith had a single and inside-the-park home run clearing the loaded bases to give her four RBIs with one swing of the bat. Brooke Lane also had a double.
The Lady Lions had their most impressive win of the year, a 13-0 shutout over Rivercrest. McLane got the pitching win assisted by good hitting by the Lady Lions. Brewer had a sacrifice and a single. Thompson hit a solid double down the left field line.
The team is coached by Donald Haynes.

GLADEWATER — The Sulphur Springs middle school boys track team took second in the recent Cub Relays.

Wildcats win twice in Ennis baseball tourney

ENNIS – The Sulphur Springs put together all phases of the game Friday night taking a 4-3 win over Ennis here in baseball tournament action.
Earlier in the day the Wildcats had flattened Seagoville, 8-0.
