The athletic schedule for Sulphur Springs is busy the first week of school.


The Paris Wildcats come to town for two sub-varsity football games at Gerald Prim Stadium on Thursday. The ninth grade game will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by the JV at 7 p.m.

This was truly a cat fight of a football scrimmage.

Sulphur Springs had three scores while Terrell netted two touchdowns and around 200 yards each in a contest with spirited action — several ups and downs.

Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens was irked by the uninspired effort and thought his team might have played to the level of the competition. The coach used words like “lackluster” and “not focused” to describe his team.

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn recently talked about the situation at backup quarterback.

Tyrik Rollison (of Sulphur Springs) is still getting a lot of reps and Neil Caudle is making the most out of his, Malzahn said.

NH volleyball tourney action

NORTH HOPKINS — North Hopkins is hosting a volleyball tournament, Friday, Aug. 21-Saturday, Aug. 22.

Tournament Pool Play results are as follows: Como-Pickton won two matches over Yantis 25-16, 25-19. Avery won against Yantis, 25-15, 25-19. Sulphur Bluff split matches with Yantis winning the first with a final of 25-20, Yantis taking top marks in second match, 25-11, and Sulphur Bluff returning to win the final match 25-17 against Yantis.


Sulphur Springs, Terrell meet in scrimmage tonight

It’s the last chance to iron out the kinks before it counts.

Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens admits the Wildcats still needs refinement, but there’s time before the Aug. 28 opener in Paris.

The Wildcats have a home scrimmage today against Terrell at Gerald Prim Stadium. The junior varsity/ninth grade begin at 5 p.m. The varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
