Lady Cats dominate All-District team

The 13-4A District softball awards 2009 were announced recently with Sulphur Springs dominating the postseason honors.

Getting top coaching honors was the Sulphur Springs staff. David Carrillo, along with assistant coaches Eric Buck, Michelle Barron and Rachel Curtis were honored as the team went 24-11 finishing district as the co-champions of 13-4A.

“It was a great, great group of kids,” Carrillo said. “A great acomplishment for our team was capturing a share of the first district championship since 2003. The area finalist finish on our season. It's hard to say goodbye to the kids that are seniors because they were such a special group but ther contribution to our program will not be forgottened.”



Lady Panthers go for series win

North Hopkins coach Jim Westbrook talks with his team prior to a recent playoff game. The Lady Panthers faced Valley Mills in Ennis Saturday to conclude the regional semifinals. Officials said teams in the past at North Hopkins have won regional quarterfinals on several occasions. The current team has won three rounds — winning district, getting a first round bye then taking wins in area and the regional quarterfinals to advance to the regional semifinals. The Lady Panthers lead the series 1-0 over Valley Mills, a win Saturday would put them in the Region II finals.

C-P basketball awards

Maci Kight-MVP and Ron Heflin Fighting Heart, Jordan Carlock-Defensive Player, Shelby Harrison-MVP, Dawnyel Spaid-Eagle award, and (not pictured) Marbellis Rasgado-JV MVP received these respective basketball awards during the recent Como-Pickton High School All-Sports banquet in the secondary cafeteria.


Como-Pickton seventh graders get Ron Heflin awards

Como-Pickton seventh grade female athletes that received the Ron Heflin Fighting Heart awards at Tuesday night's JH sports awards banquet are: Joy Den Hartog-track, Kendall Bain-basketball, and Mikaela Jacks-volleyball. The award is given in honor of a former C-P coach that was killed by a drunk driver during his line-of-duty to C-P athletes.
