PATTONVILLE — Area teams including North Hopkins and Sulphur Bluff posted results from the recent day one action at the Prairiland tournament.
WINNSBORO – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats didn’t let a loss in the first round of the Winnsboro Hoop Fest tournament on Thursday keep them down.
After losing to Martin’s Mill, the No. 3-ranked team in Class A, on Thursday morning, the Lady Cats rebounded for a convincing 47-28 victory over Frisco Heritage in the consolation bracket.
That puts the Lady Cats in the consolation semifinals at 1:50 p.m. today against Lucas Lovejoy, the No. 13-ranked team in Class 3A. Of the Lady Cats’ eight games so far this season, five have been against ranked opponents.
ROYSE CITY — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats ran out of gas.
Not on the way to the Royse City tournament, but in the fourth period against Rockwall. The Wildcats lost 52-45 in the first round of basketball tournament action.
The Wildcats were down early, but came storming back to take the lead, then ran out of energy getting outscored 16 to 8 in the final frame.
“The game was very similar to the Jacksonville game we played in bi-district a couple of years ago,” said Sulphur Springs head varsity boys basketball coach Braughn Curtis.“ It was very exciting game and fun to be apart of. Our kids competed well today.”
