Making sense of bowl game madness

I almost waited too late to put together a bowl game column.

But I have been deep in thought, pondering the serious benefits of all football bowl games and the schools involved.

I also, just found my lucky flipping coin.

So, I can get down with the business of picking MY winners in bowl games which are remaining.

TYLER — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats lost 77-53 to Mabank in the second round of the Wagstaff Classic on the campus of Tyler Junior College.

“We had several players absent who would help us tremendously. The team we had today played very hard against Mabank. They did a good job they just need their teammates to help with subs,” said Sulphur Springs head basketball coach Braughn Curtis.

No. 5 Saltillo edges Hughes Springs

TENAHA — The No.5-state ranked Saltillo Lady Lions took a step toward winning the Tenaha tournament with a 37-28 win Tuesday over Hughes Springs.

The win propels the Lady Lions into the championship game today at 7:30 p.m. against Sabine.


Wildcats lose to Lindale, 39-33

TYLER — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats rallied late, but could not overtake Lindale, losing to the Eagles, 39-33 in the first round of the Wagstaff Holiday Classic held on the campus of Tyler Junior College.


Cumby loses to Leonard: plays Rains today

LEONARD — The Leonard Tigers kicked off the opening game of their 49th Annual Holiday Tournament by showing their home court strength in a 60-32 win against the Cumby Trojans early Monday morning.
