SALTILLO— North Hopkins Lady Panthers blanked the Saltillo Lady Lions in softball action Friday 13-0.
The game winning margin was Liz Shaw's RBIs in the first and third inning.
AUSTIN — Deanna Garrett has been perfecting her pole vaulting style this past track season.
She is representing herself and the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles track team today at the 2009 82nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by State Farm held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas.
The annual track and field event draws thousands of athletes, it has been said by past participants that the whole city goes crazy. Garrett will be performing to literally a packed house.
The success of the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats on the soccer field was noticed by other coaches.
The Lady Cats finished fourth in 20-4A action, earning a playoff berth.
Friday the team was rewarded with nine players listed on the all-district team choosen by coaches.
Abby Grand-Lienard, a scoring force and a team leader, despite being a freshman was named the Newcomer of the Year in the district according to SS head soccer coach Joel Bailey.
Although ranked first in district and No. 19 a state poll, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats ran into a tough opponent at home Friday night.
The game was full of “iffy” calls and remarkable plays, and in the end, the Lady Cats sneaked out with an electrifying win, 1-0.
MARSHALL — It was a chance at a win, that slipped away.
After getting a key win earlier in the week over Mount Pleasant to even their record at 2-2 in district, the Wildcats appeared ready to make run a winning streak.
But thoughts of that ended Friday with a 5-3 loss at Marshall to the stubborn Mavs in 13-4A competition.
