MS boys win
QUITMAN — The Sulphur Springs boys won the seventh and eighth grade divisions at the recent Quitman basketball tournament.
The seventh grade team won over Grand Saline, 39-27. In that game, Jaylor Dugan had 11 points and Larry Pryor had 10 for Sulphur Springs.
The Wildcats defeated Quitman for the first place trophy, 27-16. Pryor had 10 points and Dylan Carpenter added six.
In eighth grade action, Sulphur Springs took a 38-21 win over Winfield in the championship game.
Sulphur Springs also defeated Grand Saline, 44-10. In game, Willie Ivery paced the eighth graders with 10 and Dedrick Smith scored seven.
Coach Adam Bird said, “It was a total team defensive effort helped with the defeat of the Tigers. That win put Sulphur Springs in the championship game. The Wildcats finally pulled away and won the title. The SSMS boys teams celebrated two repeat championships and look forward to Texarkana Thursday.”
The Cooper Bulldogs took an early lead and never looked back earning a 56-42 win over Grand Saline in boys varsity basketball competition.
Jalen Roberts had 10 points for top honors while Montrell Roberts added nine and Jonathan McGraw scored eight.
Cooper will play at Como-Pickton tonight beginning at 4:30 p.m.
