District 13-4A football teams in playoffs

Now it’s down to the nitty gritty.

The 10-game warm-up is over and the real wars are beginning. The regular season is a memory and now teams from District 13-4A and District 14-4A go toe-to-toe in the first round of the Class 4A football playoffs.

Lady Trojans win area title

HAWKINS — It was a sweet win for the Cumby Lady Trojans volleyball team as they earned advancement in the playoffs defeating the Price-Carlisle Lady Indians in a quick three games.

“We had not played in a week, so we were a little rusty,” said Cumby Lady Trojans head volleyball coach Shelley Jones. “The girls were a little scared at first but after they settled down they played great!”

Cross country runners compete at regional meet

ARLINGTON — The Sulphur Springs boys and girls teams both represented District 13-4A as the runner-up teams at Saturday’s Region II meet at the University of Texas-Arlington.

The Como-Pickton Cross Country teams recently trekked to Humble to compete in regional cross country.

“We are very excited about our trip to Humble,” C-P girls cross country coach Virginia Green recently noted. “Alondra (Alonso) and the boys have worked very hard to get to this point. This is a new region for us and we are a little unsure of what we might see.”

Rolling over Royse City -- Sulphur Springs advances to playoffs against Jacksonville

ROYSE CITY — If the Wildcats were using the Royse City game as a playoff warmup then Sulphur Springs is smoking heading into postseason action.

The Wildcats scored on runs, passes and interception returns as they rolled over Royse City, 56-22 in the 13-4A finale for both teams on a cool Friday night.

Sulphur Springs will now advance to meet District 14-4A representative Jacksonville in the bi-district playoffs. The game is set Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Rose Stadium. Sulphur Springs is the home team.
