Lady Cats post first win in Community tournament

NEVADA — The long drought is over, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats notched a basketball win.

The Lady Cats took a 59-44 win over H.S.A.A. in the Community basketball tournament.

Sulphur Springs was clutch at the free throw line making 15 of 18 free shots.


Yantis second, SB girls third at tourney

SULPHUR BLUFF — The Yantis Owls were edged out of the Cap Herman Basketball tournament top title on a final second buzzer three-pointer by No. 8 in Class A Bloomburg Wildcats, 63-60.

The host team, Sulphur Bluff Bears preceded the Owls with a loss of their own to Roxton, 89-33.

All tournament selections for the boys were: Dakota Brooks, Sulphur Bluff; Tony Garcia, Allen Rose, Jordan Lewis, Yantis.

Miller Grove Hornets 71,

Farmersville Farmers 49

CELESTE — The Miller Grove Hornets took the top prize in the Celeste tournament with a 71-49 win over the Farmersville Farmers on Saturday.

The Farmers did not have a fighting chance as the Hornets took and held an early gain from Most Valuable Player in the tournament, Andrew Steele with his 26 points. Bringing home the All-Tournament trophy was teammate in gold and green, Aaron Baylus, and his 11 total points.

Farmersville rallies by Sulphur Springs

NEVADA – For the second straight game, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats took a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter on Friday. But, once again, it wasn’t enough.

The Lady Cats took a 35-25 lead over Farmersville heading into the final period  of their second-round game of the Community tournament, but had the lead slip away in a 43-42 loss.
