If you cover it, they will use it more.

Or something like that to paraphrase a famous baseball movie.

Adding a roof may seem like a simple idea, but covering the baseball and softball batting cages opens up a world of possibilities.

Nothing makes you appreciate a good roof over your head like 100-degree temperatures.


Hopkins County Belles lose in title game at Liberty

LIBERTY — The Hopkins County Belles All-Stars lost 7-6 to Liberty in the championship game of the Dixie Softball tournament held recently in Liberty.

“The game was plagued with controversy and questionable calls to say the least,” said Belles head coach Monty Tipps. “Our kids never gave up despite having the deck stacked against them.”

Wildcats fall 8-7 in extra innings

Texarkana rallied for a run in the top of the eighth inning to take an 8-7 win over Sulphur Springs in Tuesday night tournament play.

The loss at Coleman Park in the North Texas State Dixie 14U tournament, eliminated Sulphur Springs from competition.


Larry White has 768 series — his highest career bowling ever

Tuesday night mixed doubles competition has proved to be Larry White’s niche for his recent high scores.

This past Tuesday night White put together three extraordinary games that totaled for a 768 series which was 177 pins above his average series.  White started with a 235 for his first game of the night.  White dominated his opponents all three games by finishing the night with 267 and 266.

Greg Pullen came alive Sunday night long enough in the second game of the competition to post a solid 298 off his 191 average.  Pullen helped his team to snatch the second game from his opponent by 95 pins.  Pullen ended the night with a 608 series.
