Como fields make semi-finals in Kellogg's program

COMO —The Como baseball fields in Como, Texas were nominated in the Plant-A-Seed program sponsored by Kellogg’s Cereal to be renovated. The baseball fields located in downtown Como have not been maintained for some time and would certainly bring life and community back to the area.

In the last several months more than 3,400 fields were nominated to make the semi-finals which includes 100 fields for final voting. The first round of voting ended, and the Como Fields officially made the semi-finals.  Of these 100 fields, only 30 will be set to be rebuilt. In order to be selected as one of the 30 fields, votes are needed now through May 31.

Sulphur Springs athletes honored at banquet

It was a night to honor the athletes at Sulphur Springs High School.

Each of the 17 sports were introduced by the coach or coaches of that sport and received acclaim from the overflow crowd in the SSHS cafeteria Monday night at the all-sports banquet.

The North Hopkins Dynasty -- Lady Panthers earn eighth consecutive playoff berth

BIRTHRIGHT — It might be the quietest dynasty in Hopkins County.

For almost a decade the first week of May, means yet another district softball title and playoff berth for North Hopkins.

The swine flu ruling by the UIL has been able to do what no other team in this area has done - slow down the Lady Panthers.

North Hopkins, 12-4 on the year, went a perfect 8-0 in district, wrapping up their fourth consecutive district title and eighth straight playoff berth under head coach Jim Westbrook.

“We’ve had a good run off it, especially the last eight years,” Westbrook admitted. “We’ve had exceptional pitching to go with our defense and we hit enough to scratch out some wins.”
