State baseball, softball tournaments continue

State Dixie League 8U playoff action continues at Coleman Park fields.

The Sulphur Springs Central team’s game was rained out on Wednesday.

Sulphur Springs will play Idabel, Okla. at 2 p.m. today, and   Prosper meets Jefferson at 3:30 p.m. The winners play for the championship at 6 p.m. If Sulphur Springs and Prosper both win, Sulphur Springs will have to beat Prosper twice due to their overall record.

Carrillo leaves SS to coach Yantis program

YANTIS — It all went down on Monday, July 6 in the conference room at Yantis ISD.

Former Sulphur Springs head girls basketball coach Tina Carrillo signed on the dotted line as the new Yantis Lady Owls head basketball/head softball coach.

“Tina brings a lot to Yantis,” said Yantis athletic director Jack Bowles. “We are looking forward to Yantis girls’ basketball this year and in the future.”

Teams Split State Tourney Tilts

Good times, bad times.

Two Sulphur Springs teams were in 8U state playoffs Tuesday at Coleman Park with drastically different results.

The Sulphur Springs Central team took a 14-8 win over Splendora and advance in state Dixie League competition.

Sulphur Springs Central will meet Idabel, Okla. at 6 p.m. today.

Cumby offers first ever track camp

Cumby will offer for the first time a track and field camp beginning Thursday and continuing through Sunday. Cumby head track coach Gary Parrish is coordinating the event in hopes of making it an annual tradition.

Incoming fifth-ninth graders are welcome to attend. The cost of camp is $30.  All campers will receive a camp T-shirt and four meals. The Trojan Track and Field Camp will be held on the track at Commerce High School as Cumby ISD does not currently have a track at the campus.
