State track meet
features five runners
from three schools
  The University Interscholastic League Texas State Track meet begins today and continues through Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
  Abbi Baier of Sulphur Springs will compete Friday evening in the 300-meter hurdles.
  For Saltillo, regional champion Sienna Collins will run in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 races.
  Miller Grove will be sending four to Austin - Luke Brignon, Aleigh Bessonett, Alberto Serrano and Cassidy Seaney.
    Bessonett will take a 12:12.40 time from a second place finish at regional in the 3,200-meter run, she also has a time of 5:43.46 in the 1,600-meter run which took second and was a personal record.  Brignon will compete in the 3,200-meter run, timed at 10:37.03, second at regional. Seaney had a time of 2:34.12 and will race in the 800-meter run, she was second at regional. Serrano was first in regional in the 800-meters at 2:06.37 and first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:49.56.

Two teams remain
in baseball playoffs
   The Sulphur Bluff Bears won 11-4 over Bloomburg in the bi-district playoffs.
    The Bears  opened playoff action Wednesday, at Mount Vernon with a heart-breaking 2-1 loss in the seventh inning against Union Hill
    Sulphur Bluff plays Union Hill, Saturday in Game 2 at 3 p.m. Game 3 if needed, 30 minutes later.
   Yantis will meet Trinidad in the playoffs, all games are Kemp High School. Game 1 is Thursday at 7 p.m.; Game 2 at 7 p.m. Friday; Game 3, if needed, at 1 p.m. Saturday.

 

Baier chases state meet in hurdles

    For some athletes, making the Texas State UIL Track and Field finals in Austin as a sophomore might seem a little daunting.
    Perhaps some young student/athletes can’t handle the pressure and magnitude of racing in Mike Myers Stadium in front of 10,000 or so diehard track fans.

    Sulphur Springs coaches said members of the Wildcats football team brought more energy to the outdoor practice field on Tuesday after a “lackluster” Monday workout.
