83rd Annual Chamber Banquet was a HUGE Success!

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Chamber Banquet last week. We had close to 450 people in attendance for “Mardi Gras, Hopkins County Style.” In case you couldn’t make it, you missed a wonderful dinner, catered by Andy and MaryLou Wright of BirthWright Bar B Que, a very interesting speaker, Dr. Dan Jones, president of Texas A&M University-Commerce, and the presentation of several, well-deserved awards:

  • Large Business of the Year — NETX Farmer’s Co-op, Brad Johnson and Harold Bryant

I would also like to thank the banquet committee — Bob Weaver, Polly Swatsell, Lynda Hager, Glenda Bassham, Bobby McDonald, Laura Brannon, Lynn Luttrell and Jackie Thornton for all of their hard work. Also, a huge thank you to all of the other board members and Ambassadors who worked so hard to make the banquet such a huge success! Congratulations to all of the Award Recipients!!!!

Sulphur Springs Boys Baseball Sign-ups—Only One Week Left

If your son is between the ages of 5 and 14 (as of May1), stop by Fieldhouse Sports and sign them up for spring baseball by Saturday, Feb. 28th. Sulphur Springs Gymnastics

to Host State Qualifier

America the Beautiful Invitational is the name of the gymnastics competition that will be held at the Sulphur Springs Gymnastics Center from February 28th-March 1st. Why is it called that, you may ask? Not only is it a very important meet for the hundreds of gymnasts that will attend, but it will also be a tribute to a fallen soldier, Allen Mosteiro who was killed in Iraq. He was the brother of one of the head coaches at the Gymnastics Center. So, to honor all of our current and former members of the American Armed Forces, all active duty military and their families will be given free admission to the competition. Relay for Life, May 1st & 2nd at the Middle School Track

CAN Help
Wow! What a wonderful new facility CAN Help has on Gilmer Street. The Ambassadors hosted a ribbon cutting at the new location of CAN Help Wednesday. Featured in the photo are Beverly Morrison, staff; Penny Spearman; Dawn Sheffield, Executive Director; Trisha Metrolis, board member; Tom Frisbie, board member; and Larry Jordan, board member; Also featured in the photo are Chamber Ambassadors, board members and other members of the community that wanted to share in the grand opening of their new building. State Farm Insurance Agency, Brittany Wilson Ribbon Cutting
On Thursday, February 19th, at noon, the Ambassadors will host a ribbon cutting at Brittany Wilson’s State Farm Insurance Agency located on State Highway 19 (Hillcrest Drive) just north of I-30 in front of Woodbridge Estates. Please stop by and join us in welcoming this new business to Hopkins County.

Courthouse Vault Door  Project
The Leadership Sulphur Springs Class of 2008-2009 is raising money to restore the Hopkins County Courthouse vault door. In order to raise the money, they will be having “Cakes for the Courthouse” Bake Sale on Friday, February 13th, from 8 a.. to noon in front of Alliance Bank, and will be offering Guided Courthouse Tours on February 14th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for just $10. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn all of the history of the beautiful courthouse!
