The Chamber Connection

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, stop by the Flea Market on the Square and check out all the vendors. You will be able to find all sorts of treasures, along with taekwondo demonstrations, kids safety kits and really good food vendors. While you are downtown, take a stroll down Main Street and purchase some fresh produce from the Farmer's Market. The festivities will take place from 8 a.m-4 p.m.

Don’t Forget to VOTE!!! Every Vote Counts!

The Sulphur Springs ISD bond and City Council elections will be held on Saturday, May 9th, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the SSISD Administration Building, located at 631 Connally St.

After voting…stop by the Farmer’s Market on Main Street! 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Ribbon Cutting at Ms. Robin’s Nest

Ms. Robin’s Nest is a new day care facility located at 101 Sherry Lane in Sulphur Springs (at the College Street overpass just before you get to ABC Autoplex.) Robin Palmer opened the daycare, which is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and takes children from infants to after school age. Pictured in the photo from left to right are Ambassadors Linda Mobley and Dial Moffitt, ownerRobin Palmer, with her granddaughter Aniston, Kyla, Macie, Jennifer, Nataleigh, Allie and her Grandma, Julie and Mateo, and Ambassadors Debbie Swingle, Nelda Winkle and Cecile Blount. Children behind the banner are Nikolas, Kason, and Gavin. We welcome them to the Chamber of Commerce. If you have questions about the daycare, please call 885-7900.

 

Bluegrass in the Park — May 8th & 9th

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday for an evening filled with fabulous bluegrass music, beginning at 5:30pm at Heritage Park.

 

Broadway Musical in Sulphur Springs! “Oz” will be on stage at the Civic Center

Get your tickets now to see American Idol runner-up Dianna DeGarmo LIVE at the Civic Center on May 26 & 27 at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. Tickets are $15 for students (with student ID), seniors (over 55), children 12 and under and groups of 15 or more. All other adults will be $20. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity! Memorial Day Observance May 22nd on the Courthouse Steps at 10 a.m.

Join us on the square to recognize the men and women who have served this country and to observe Memorial Day. The Middle School Band will perform, the Hopkins County Military Coalition will fire 21 rounds, then “Taps” will be played from the balcony of the courthouse. The Hopkins County Veterans Memorial Comiittee will be organizing this event and will also provide chairs. Please join us for this special day!

 

Where is your Ice Cream Freezer? Pull it out and Dust it off!

It’s that time of year — the Texas State Champion Homemade Ice Cream Freeze-Off will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 4 p.m. on the Civic Center Grounds. For more information and entry forms, either call us at 903-885-6515 or stop by our office at 300 Connally St.

You know what it means if the Ice Cream Freeze-Off is just around the corner…that means that the Dairy Festival is quickly approaching as well! Here is a quick rundown of events:

Hot Air Balloons take flight early morning

8am begins the 5K Milk Run…you may register at Fieldhouse for this event

10am — Parade

1-3 — Corvette Show

1 p.m. — 42 Tournament

3 p.m. — Milking Tournament

4 p.m. — Ice Cream Contest

6 p.m. — Hot Air Balloon Glow

 

Wednesday, June 17-20

Carnival

 

Saturday June 20th

10 a p.m..m. — NETLA Jr. Dairy Show

10 a.m. — Dairy Foods Contest

7 p.m. — Dairy Festival Pageant to round out the week of activities!

 

What to do with old cell phones?.....CANHelp!

CANHelp has initiated a collection program for recycling cell phones. Any unused cell phones can be donated to CANHelp at 613 Gilmer St., Sulphur Springs, Texas. For more information, call Dawn Sheffield at 903-885-9797.

The Chamber Connection: Bulkley Trucking wins 20th Annua Golf Tournament

The team of B.D. Powers, Donnie Powers, Terry Goldsmith, Jeff Brown, Kirk Blake and Pat Larkin, sponsored by Bulkley and Associates trucking company, were the low net scorers for the 20th Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, winning six passes to the Crowne Plaza Invitational PGA tournament at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth as well as the honors and bragging rights of being the Champions for 2009!
