What a great first week to the NFL and fantasy season. The big dogs were great, the little dogs struggled and a few sleepers surprised. Unfortunately, the FleaDogs started the season with a loss, falling 87 - 62 to the Bo Knows FB (but my other 4 teams won their opening games -- including two high scorers, so it was a successful weekend). When you pit Schaub, Daniels and Bush against Brees, Shockey and Julius Jones, you aren't going to win much.
The Stock Watch:
Adrian Peterson (RB - Minn,): What can you say, he's the top back in the game and you can bet he will put up many, many more games just like this one.
Maurice Jones-Drew (RB - Jax): The numbers aren't great on the surface, but he did rush for 97 yards on 21 carries and caught 5 passes for another 26 yard. Oh, he also scored. You can bet he'll bust some runs this season, too, which will only drive the numbers upward.
Cedric Benson (RB - Cinc): The Bengals offense is a little shaky, but it looks like they are going to try and run the ball this season and Benson is the man. Don't be afraid to start him as your #2 back.
Drew Brees (QB - N.O.): Stud. Next.
Mark Sanchez (QB - NYJ): You can't start him. Not yet, at least. But Sanchez looked good. Real good. Expecting a Matt Ryan-type rookie season is not unreasonable. And he's got a good team around him.
Reggie Wayne (WR - Indy): Any doubt that Reggie has taken over for Marvin Harrison as Peyton's go-to-guy? 10 for 162 with a TD is down-right studly. Gonzalez going down might hurt some, but you shouldn't bet against Reggie.
Santonio Holmes (WR - Pitt): You still can't be crazy about Big Ben at QB, but Holmes was certainly active. 9 catches for 131 yards is worth noting.
John Carlson (TE - Sea): There has been some nice hype on Carlson coming into the season and he proved the hype correct. He had two Week 1 TDs and Hasselbeck seemed to look for Carlson often. If you've got Carlson, consider yourself lucky.
Jake Delhomme (QB - Car.): Wow. That was ugly. You can't count on Delhomme this year. If he's your starter, you are in trouble.
Donovan McNabb (QB - Phil): You have to be worried about the rib injury (that was SS alum Damione Lewis that supplied the cracking). And his numbers weren't great in the first place.
Matt Schaub (QB - Hou.): It was only one game, but you had to expect much more than 18/36 for 166. Color me concerned.
Steve Slaton (RB - Hou): Anyone else scared about the Texans right now?
Steven Jackson (RB - Stl.): Run away. Quickly. The Rams are BAD.
Lance Moore (WR - N.O.): This downgrade isn't so much about Moore as it is about the number of weapons in New Orleans. He may just get lost in the shuffle.
Anthony Gonzalez (WR - Indy): He was drafted as a solid #2 in most leagues. That injury hurt.
Steve Smith (WR - Car): When your QB is that bad, your value has to drop.
