Tira volunteer firefighters responded to a grass fire on State Highway 19 north on Thursday and another grass fire on County Road 4795 on Saturday.

Kevin and Dee Melton enjoyed visiting with Dee's sister Jeannie Graves, her husband Phil and children Bryce, Baylee and Kylee on Sunday afternoon. Dee gives the following “update on the kids”:

“Kadee enjoyed her first week of classes at Texas A&M. On Friday night she attended Midnight Yell and was at the game to see the Aggies beat New Mexico 41-6 on Saturday. Micah and friend Kaleigh Janota traveled from Lubbock to Gonzales to visit Kaleigh's family for the long weekend. While there, they were treated to dinner on the River Walk in San Antonio. They returned to Lubbock on Monday to start classes again on Tuesday.”

Robert and Yvonne Weir were blessed with a houseful of family over the weekend. Destri arrived on Saturday, and Dustin, Natalie, and Dacy came on Sunday. They enjoyed playing games, and Yvonne says that they seemed to enjoy the fact that she was losing all the time. On Monday, after the girls left, Dustin gave Wesley, Robert, and Yvonne a ride in the boat on Cooper Lake.

Sandra Wester enjoyed visiting in Temple with her sister, Mary Lou Jeter, and her family from Thursday until Tuesday. Another sister, Linda Andrasko, was also there visiting. They attended the Friends of Temple Library book sale and bought several books to read and share. Lou, Joe, Linda and Sandra enjoyed playing Apples to Apples and Mexican Train dominoes. Jill and Chelsea Jeter and Travis Houston visited on Saturday night for dinner and games. Jill and Chelsea visited again on Sunday afternoon. Lou, Linda and Sandra also enjoyed a couple of shopping outings after lazy mornings just visiting. Linda and Sandra returned to their homes in Henderson and Tira on Tuesday after a fun, relaxing visit.

Chip and I went to Broken Bow, Okla., and brought Chip's mother, Grace, back for a visit Sunday afternoon. She will be here through Saturday. On Labor Day, Malcolm, Tiffany, Landon, Morgan, Kenden, and Jaidyn Joslin, and Landon's friend, Chelsie, joined us for hamburgers and homemade ice cream. That evening Chip, Grace and I went to Tim and Lori Vaughn's house and enjoyed chicken stew and visiting with friends and family.
