The rain is great, even though I had to run out and get my clothes off the line. I am not complaining, because I know there are some places that would love to have some rain. So thank you God for respite from the dryness and the heat. I never dreamed so much rain could come from such few clouds. I sincerely hope you are having a good week.

So many things are beginning to happen with the start of school. I want to let all the teachers of SSISD and CISD know that I will be sending a prayer up for them on Monday. We all need to let our teachers know that they are appreciated for all they do. Good luck to you on the new school year.

I just wanted to let you know that Joyce Hale is doing better. She found out what was ailing her and is now on the mend. Take care, Joyce, and make sure you follow the doctor’s instructions/orders. Janet up at the store has been ailing with her COPD, so let’s all remember her in our prayers, and if you have time just stop by and wish her a speedy recovery.

Tom wants to say he hopes everyone enjoyed their watermelons last week. The response was great. He is busy planting his fall garden with this rain. We hope to have a better fall garden than we did this summer. We have not gotten any okra or black-eyed peas even after planting three times.

Happy birthday to my friend, Kay McMeans. Kay is one of the teachers that will be starting back next week. Happy birthday to Britney Caudle, Archie Stone, 8/12; Wanda Fowler, Vickie Peek, 8/14; Harlen Haynsworth, 8/16; Benny Peek, 8/17; Sherry Jennings, Albert Reeves, 8/18; Doug McCraw, 8/19; Hugh Pettigrew, Harvey Snider, 8/20; Robert Moody, 8/21; Patsy George, Connie Mabe, Fani George, 8/22. May you all be blessed with family, health and peace. Happy birthday.

I also want to know if any of you might have some slightly used or some clothes you would like to donate to our FUMC Clothes Drive at our church in Sulphur Springs. We will be having the clothes drive for back to school shopping with everything priced at 25 cents — that is right, folks, just 25 cents. I will be leaving a box at the store for your contributions. Remember it will be going for a good cause. Thanks.

In this troubled times, I would just like to ask everyone to take time to say a prayer for our government leaders, unemployed people, and anyone who might be struggling with the economy. Remember, we are blessed here in Brashear.

Until next week, I hope to hear from anyone who has information they would like to share with the world. My number is 903-612-8806; email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
