Fox has just confirmed that Paula Abdul, the famed "American Idol" judge and pop star, will not be returning to television's #1 rated program.
Rumors of Paula's retirement flew last season as Abdul protoge and grammy winner Kara DioGuardi joined the show evening out the once three-judge panel consisting of Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell. On Monday, Fox announced that DioGuardi would return for a second season judging panel.
During her contract negotiations in July, Abdul and Fox disagreed on the terms of her return - mostly over money.
"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return," Abdul said in a posting on her Twitter account.
American Idol producers said Abdul was "an important part of the 'American Idol' family over the last eight seasons, and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show."
"I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon," Abdul tweeted.
