Joyce (Weir) Dodd reports that the North Hopkins Class of 1965 is planning a reunion for Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. at the White Oak Café. They would like for any former students of that class (not just the graduating class) to make plans to attend.

Jimmy and Joyce Goldsmith were in Houston from Saturday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 15, to watch Justin Goldsmith, their grandson, play in the State Tournament of Dixie League Baseball (12-year-olds). Justin, son of Terry and Gina Goldsmith, was on the Sulphur Springs All Stars Team. Justin’s other grandparents, Bert and Barbara Dorner of Sulphur Bluff, also attended the tournament. The team was coached by John McCullough, David Maeker and Terry Goldsmith. Joyce reports, “The players did real well (won two and lost two). The weather was cooler there than it was here, but we were sure glad to get back home.

Sherry Smiddy and Powell Vickery spent the week before last week at their lake property at Sun Eagle Bay. They had visitors in and out all week including Brenda, Ron, Chastin, Joe and Justin Smiddy; Rachelle, Ron, Rhestin and Rylan Sills; Tara Petty and Mike Owens; Chanse, Cody, Cailun, and Daylee Fite; and Aysha and Brandi Day. They did a lot of cooking out, fishing, swimming, tubing, skiing, and knee boarding. Last week Sherry, Powell, Daylee and Chanse attended Cody’s World Series Baseball tournament in Broken Arrow, Okla., where his team, The Cats, coached by Chris Follis took fourth place. There were lots of events throughout the week that kept everyone busy. On Saturday Sherry, Powell, and Daylee went to see “Dora Live” at the Nokia theatre in Grand Prairie. Sherry says that there were “thousands of little girls and boys and lots of singing and dancing in the aisles.”

Blake Adams’ team placed second in the 13-and-under Dixie Boys Baseball State Tournament, held in Kilgore July 11-16. His team was coached by Jeff Box, Scott Milsap and Brian McClure. The team spent the weekend in Kilgore and then went back and forth throughout the week. RaDona Adams reports, “Team members included Blake Adams, Cody Box, Kevin Meza, Hunter Elliott, Brad Macek, Trevor McClure, Mason Moore, Damion Shields, Sam Hammons, Jesse Williams and Bradley Jeffrys.”

Mick and Linda Petty were in the town of West, Texas, on Saturday and Sunday to watch their granddaughter, Reagan Humphrey, play in a basketball tournament. Of course, they had to bring back some of the kolaches that the town is famous for.

Kadee Melton and Micah Walker and grandparents Dean & Margaret Eudy returned home late Monday from vacation.  After a brief stay in Galveston and a trip to Moody Gardens, they boarded a ship for a four-day cruise to Mexico.  While in port in Cozumel they took a dune buggy excursion across the island, where they snorkeled, climbed to the top of a lighthouse to view the ocean, and saw a Mayan Ruin.

John Long returned from a trip to Europe and then left again for a trip to the Galveston and Houston area, with his parents, Tommy and Carolyn Long. John was looking for an apartment and they located one in Pearland. John has accepted a teaching/coaching job in the Alvin school district. He and his family enjoyed walking on the beach in Galveston, sight-seeing along the boardwalk in Kemah, and eating out at several nice restaurants. While in Europe John visited Switzerland, France, Monaco, England, Scotland and Ireland. I hear that he has some exciting stories to share and we will look forward to hearing more about his travels.

Chip and I took Landon, Morgan, and Kenden Joslin and Chelsie Edwards to the Texas A&M-Commerce Planetarium on Friday night. Chip and Morgan went to the Watermelon Fest and fly-in at the Mount Vernon airport on Saturday and I took Kenden fishing at Cooper Lake. Tiffany, Landon, Morgan, Kenden and Chelsie spent Monday at Six Flags and had a great time. The weather was cooler and the park was not crowded. They were able to ride the rides multiple times.
