The Paytons also report, “Rev. Leroy Reaves conducted church service at the Tira Methodist Church on Sunday. Pastor Ed Dodd was out for the wedding of his daughter. We were blessed to have several visitors in attendance and want to welcome them to join in worship any time. Several members of our congregation are out with illness or surgery, which we wish for a speedy recovery.”
Judy Roberts spent June 20-23 in Ann Arbor in training for University of Michigan. Judy reports, “The weather was great and it was nice to be there in the summer for a change. No snow!”
Kevin, Dee and Kadee Melton and Micah Walker were in Tulsa, Okla., this past week at the National Junior Hereford Expo. They spent the week enjoying Tulsa and the events of the NJH Expo. On Wednesday they traveled historic Route 66 to Claremore, where they toured the J.M. Davis Arms & Historical Museum and walked through the historical district, where they had lunch. Kadee, Kevin and Micah participated in the livestock judging contest, and Kadee exhibited her heifers, receiving a fourth, a fifth and an eighth in her classes.
The Durst family had a big day on Saturday. They celebrated Amy's birthday by having Jo Hasty and Karen Fitzhugh from Athens; Michael Cook (Karen's Grandson) from Corinth; Amy, Kyle and Cooper Kitchens from Oklahoma; and Casey, Tiffany and Joseph Durst (from "next door") for a birthday lunch. Donna reports, “We ate one of Andy Wright's delicious barbecue briskets and spent the day enjoying the two grandsons. It was fun watching them notice each other. For dinner, we all went to town and ate at the China Buffet.”
Yvonne Weir was on vacation last week and celebrated by not cooking all week. On Tuesday, Yvonne, Robert, and Helen Weir and Alice Hall met and ate in Sulphur Springs, and on Thursday they drove to Paris for steak. Yvonne and Alice went to Royse City on Wednesday and spent the day shopping with Dacy and Elise. Brenda Allen met Robert and Yvonne for lunch on Friday, and on Saturday the Weir family and Alice drove to Little Elm and spent the night with Destri and Ryan Main.
On Sunday and Monday they spent time with Dustin and Natalie at Cooper Lake. Yvonne says, “It was really too hot to do much even at the lake. So now it is all over and back to work again.”
Grace Vaughn of Broken Bow, Okla., spent Thursday afternoon through Sunday with us. Grace and I shopped and had lunch in Sulphur Springs on Friday. That evening Chip, Grace, Tiffany, Landon, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin, and Landon’s friends, Dakota and Chelsea, and I went to Cooper Lake State Park and swam. Grace spent Saturday afternoon with Tim and Lori Vaughn and their family. Chip and I hosted a cookout for the deaf, hearing impaired, interpreters, and their families on Saturday afternoon. Shirley Charles, Roy Smith and Frances and Keith Klein helped. Others attending included Ethan Klein; Brian, Gena, Sabrina and Brianna Sparks, Kathy Tucker and Tom O’Hara of Sulphur Springs; Kenney Freestone of Peerless; Edie Feliciano and Wendell Cavat of Tyler; and Malcolm and Tiffany and their family. Grace, Chip and I visited John, Linda, Jason, Patty and Natalie Vaughn and Susan, and Jana and Kim Vaughn on Sunday afternoon before taking Grace back to Broken Bow, where we also visited with Jim and Sandra Vaughn.
