Summer is officially here! (As if we couldn’t guess!) I hope you have found a good way to beat the heat. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids.

Are you having any extra garden vegetables? The Meal-A-Day program can always use anything extra. Last week, they had several people bring in squash. They are getting very creative on ways to make squash. I mentioned that I had a Zucchini Salsa recipe that my daughter had found, so I am going to share with all of you:

Zucchini Salsa

1 zucchini

2 tomatoes

1 bunch of green onions (use the green part)

1 jalapeno, seeded

1 can of jalapeno sauce (small can in Mexican food section at store)

Cilantro and salt to season

1 tsp balsamic vinegar

Slice and chop finely. Refrigerate a short time and eat.

VBS was a success last week at Brashear Baptist Church. They had several children attending, and one day the attendance was up to 70. The closing ceremony Friday night went well with more than 75 people being fed and enjoying the children’s program.

Daylan Burns represented Brashear very well in the Dairy Pageant. I thought her talent number was fantastic. She had my vote. Sorry, Daylan, they didn’t ask for my opinion. You were awesome. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us.

Well, stopped by the store today to see if the “Boys” had any news and they didn’t. Imagine that. I asked them if they had noticed that this summer we are doing without grasshoppers and rats. I knocked on wood because I didn’t want to jinx us. Wonder where all the rats went?

The youth at Brashear Baptist Church are working hard preparing for camp. They will be leaving in late July. They will be hosting a Garage Sale and Car Wash this Saturday with the funds going toward camp. There are approximately 37 planning on attending camp. Let’s try to help support the youth of Brashear Baptist Church.

I heard that Brashear Baptist Church also took up some money to help out the Gaffords. Let’s hope the money came in handy. Don’t forget to pray for them.

Stopped by to check up on Janet at the store yesterday; she says that she is doing a lot better. She needs to keep using her oxygen. If you have time, stop by and visit. I guess what I am trying to say is, “it only takes a minute to stop by and check on someone you know who might be doing poorly.” So do it when you can.

Again, I want to thank all of you who come up and say you read “Brashear News.” It is a wonderful experience, because I have gotten to know so many people. So until next week, take care. Aand as I always say, come on by County Road 1119, call 903-612-8806 or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
