GRAND SALINE — The Como-Pickton Eagle track team rode lightning into the regional competition at the 2009 13-2A district track meet that was held on Wednesday, April 15-Thursday, April 16 at Grand Saline.

"The Como-Pickton boys track team competed both days in Grand Saline, at the 2009 13AA district track meet.  The competition was extremely tough, and we only had 10 boys attended," said Greg Roller, C-P Eagles head track coach.

"The varsity boys finished seventh with 36 points, and the JV failed to score."

Advancing to regional track competition that will be held at Tarleton State in Stephenville on May 1-2  will be Trevor Cagle in the 400-meter run and the 1,600-meter relay team.

"Everyone competed very well and almost everybody had personal bests in their events," Roller added.  "We had a couple of fourth place finishes.  Cagle in high jump had one more miss than the third place finisher, and Hunter Cain in the 3,200-meter run finished just two yards behind the third place finisher, pulling 15 seconds off his best time. We felt like our 800-meter relay team had a great chance to advance, but we failed to get the baton around the track. I feel like we would have been right there for third place. In the JV division, Deon Robinson made the finals in the 110-meter hurdles, but fell on the third to last hurdle. He got up and still finished even though he was going to get last.  He competed well."

The C-P Eagles regional qualifiers will be competing next Friday, April 24 in White Oak.

Competing for the C-P Eagles in the JV division was Deon Robinson: 110-meter hurdles, 100-meter and 200-meter runs; Cameron Robinson and Juan Morales: shot and  discus. Competing in the varsity division was Dustin Flowers: pole vault, 800-meter relay, and 200-meter run; Hunter Cooksey: pole vault, 800-meter relay, 200-meter run, 1,600-meter relay; Hunter Cain: 3,200 and 1,600-meter runs; Angel Mercado: 100-meter run, 800-meter relay, 1,600-meter relay; Seth Sturgill: high jump, 800-meter run, and 1,600-meter relay; Trevor Cagle: long jump, high jump, 800-meter relay, 400-meter, and 1,600-meter relay, Even Tellez: long jump, 800 and 400-meter runs.
