We all want to remember past Brashear citizens, so when you have news of one that has moved away, call and leave an update, please.
I got a call from Lurline Buckholt’s daughter Saturday night. Lurline is not doing well. She fell and broke a bone in her back has signs of dementia and Parkinson’s. Her daughter said her dementia was really bad, and she is not sure she will leave the hospital. So, all of you prayer warriors, get on your knees and send up some prayers for Lurline and her daughter.
Sandra Winchester called me on Thursday night to let us know about a past resident, Carolyn Hatley Rushing. She had bypass surgery before Christmas and has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer. She lives at 704 Park Lane, Dallas, TX for those who would like to send her a card, and her phone number is 214-328-8075. We also need to be praying for her, too.
Sandra also let me know that Margie Basham is returning to live in Brashear with her son Kenneth Basham. She has recently had cancer surgery and is going through chemo. We want to wish her well and are glad to have her back in our fine town.
Well, have you noticed our new assistant at the post office? Her name is Jodie Benoist. When you get a chance, stop by when she is there and say hello. Make her feel apart of Brashear.
Today while on my walk, my neighbor, Christi Hammonds, and her son stopped by for a visit and we talked about how sometimes you can find wild fruit growing along our country roads. I showed her where I had found some wild plum and pear on County Road 1157. I also told her about all of the blackberries we have out here. I just warned her to watch out for snakes — they like to hide in the vines.
Another week is gone with the weather keeping us honest. First we have a late frost, and then two days later it makes 80 degrees. Only in Texas!
The Brashear Baptist Church had their dedication of their new Family Life Building last Sunday, and I heard from my aunt that it is beautiful. Wish them luck in enjoying the building after working so hard on it.
I would like some feedback on the idea of having a Brashear Area Rummage Sale or large garage sale. What are your thoughts?
Some new ideas for saving money:
Cold water rinse on your washing clothes
Try to wash only big loads
Solar drying (i.e., use a clothesline)
Do not buy bottle water
Buy in bulk
Hope these will help some of you in the days to come to help stretch your paycheck.
Until next time, take care, and let’s all remember that family and friends are very important. May this Holy Week find you and yours in a church of your choosing and remember that “because he lives, we can face tomorrow.”
