Lady Bears
lose, 5-0
LINDALE — The No. 3 Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears fell 5-0 here Thursday in Game 1 to No. 5  Slocum of the regional 1A softball playoffs.

Game 2 is set today at the same location at 6 p.m. A third game, if needed would be played 30 minutes after the second tilt.
“We just didn’t get the big hits and they did,” said Austin Darby, Sulphur Buff  head softball coach. “We left runners on base all night, we could not get a hit to knock them in.”
Starting Lady Bear pitcher Kaylon Hume had six strikeouts and took the loss.
At the plate, Hume had two walks and a double; Makenna Morgan had a hit, walking twice; senior Hailey Halbert had single.
Darby said, “We had base runners. They were scared of Makenna’s power, she did not get much to hit. We had five errors which led to four of their five runs. That put us in a hole.
“The lack of clutch hits and errors really hurt us. It was like we were nervous,” Darby said. “We were nervous in our first playoff game and lost. I think we will come out today really focused. We’re planning on to Lindale to play two games. That’s what we have to do. Today we have to capitalize when we get runners on base. Hume will pitch again.”
