North Hopkins posts softball, baseball wins

SALTILLO— North Hopkins Lady Panthers blanked the Saltillo Lady Lions in softball action Friday 13-0.

The game winning margin was Liz Shaw's RBIs in the first and third inning.

Leading hitters for the Lady Panthers were Chrissy Smitty 2-for-4, RBI, three runs, and a walk; Chrissy Hall 1-for-4 and a run; Courtney Loper 3-for-4, triple, RBI, and three runs; Jessica Harry walk and RBI; Liz Shaw 1-for-4, two RBIs, one walk and run; Cheyenne Duke two runs and one RBI; Tana Hall 1-for-3, double, RBI, and a run; Grace Cox 1-for-3, RBI, walk and run; P.K. Harlin one RBI, and a run.

Lady Panther Chrissy Smitty was the winning pitcher pitching five innings, striking out five and allowing two hits.  Hall had two put outs and four assists according to North Hopkins Lady Panther head coach Jim Westbrook. The Lady Panthers are 3-0 in district play, 7-4 overall record.

Hitting for Saltillo were Emily White and Regan Martin each 1-for-2. Lady Lion Kirsten McLane pitched five innings.

North Hopkins will face Sulphur Bluff Thursday at Sulphur Bluff at 5 p.m. The game against Miller Grove scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. Miller Grove will not be playing softball this season. Yantis has also canceled the remainder of the season due to injuries.

Saltillo will host two home games this week, first against Sulphur Bluff Tuesday at 5 p.m. followed by Cumby on Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m. due to holiday schedule.

NORTH HOPKINS — The North Hopkins Panthers took down the visiting Roxton Lions in baseball play on a perfect afternoon Monday, 7-3. This win puts the Panthers in playoff contention.

Undefeated district opponents, North Hopkins will face off with Wolfe City Wolves Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.  to determine first and second in district.

Panthers hitting in win over Lions were Paco Castro with 2-for-4, two singles; Canyon Cockrum was 2-for-4, one single, one double, three RBIs, and two stolen bases; Lorenzo Rivera was 2-for-3, one single, one homer, and two RBIs.

Cockrum was the winning pitcher, pitching seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs with one error.

North Hopkins will travel to Yantis for a 4:30 p.m. game.
