Saltillo High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter members came home from the State FCCLA meeting held April 6-8 in Dallas with 17 medals in Family and Consumer Sciences Assessments.
FCSAs are objective tests given to FCCLA members at fall leadership training, regional FCCLA meetings and at the state FCCLA meeting. Students may test at all meetings, but may only take one test at each meet. There are 12 possible assessments.
“This year, we competed in child development, interior design, consumer math, creed and Step One. I did have a few who stepped out of their comfort zone and competed in contests that we had not done before,” said Johnna West, Saltillo FCCLA sponsor.
Each FCSA receives a score of 1-100. Students scoring 85-100 receive a gold medal, 84-70 a silver medal and 55-69 a bronze medal, and certificates scoring below 69 receive a certificate.
The 10 gold medals went to Saltillo FCCLA members Brenda Castro, Lindsay Butler, Lorena Castro, Sienna Collins, Brianna Harvick, Rainie English, Selena Hernandez, BreAnna Reynolds, Madison Simmons and Christy Marquez.
Receiving the five silver medals were Jocelyn Ochoa, Ana Gallegos, Hannah Wartenbee, Graycie Hodges and Caitlin Shelby.
The two bronze medals went to Melissa Tawil and Michael Clover.
“We had a great time in Dallas and I am very proud of these students for working hard on getting ready to compete,” West said.
