A six-year-old Sulphur Springs child died late Sunday in what officials call a “terrible, terrible accident” in her family's driveway in the 1000 block of Church Street.
Hopkins County Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings said that Tessa Nicole Skeen had been playing in the yard, but apparently had moved to the driveway behind a pickup while her father was mowing the yard.
After the girl's father, Anthony Skeen, finished mowing, he started to move his truck. He did not know the girl was behind the vehicle and backed over her.
The child was taken to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Sulphur Springs emergency room where she was later pronounced dead.
Cummings said he ordered an autopsy in what he called a “terrible, terrible accident.”
Texas law requires an autopsy be performed in any incident that results in the death of a child age six and under.
Funeral services for Tessa Nicole Skeen are pending with West Oaks Funeral Home.
