WACO — The Cumby Lady Trojan powerlifting teams tied for first place at the state meet here Saturday.
Cumby and Irion County had the same number of points overall.

Tom Dracos, Cumby athletic director  said Irion was awarded first because they had more first place finishes.
The four girl team from Cumby had an outstanding meet.
Dracos said, “Cheyenne Jones a junior in the 105-pound weight class earned her third state medal placing second at the meet with her personal best total of 675 pounds. Her 285-pound squat also claimed her award of outstanding squat on the light platform. Ashley Hagood a junior placed fourth in the 148-pound weight class with a total of 785 pounds earning her second medal at state level. Newcomers to medal Samantha Hagood in the 165s and Elizabeth Thomas in the 198s. Sam, a junior, was second in her weight class with a total of 770 pounds. Thomas, a senior, placed fourth in her weight class with 855-pound total.”
Dracos added, “I couldn’t be more proud of our girls.  They really showed up.  There was a really cool part of the day.  Saman that picked up 325 to secure her second place and 30 seconds late Cheyenne Jones dead lifted 255 pounds to put her in first. Great moment!  Unfortunately a girl deadlifted 285 pounds to tie Cheyenne for first.  Cheyenne weighed more than the other lifter so she got second.  One pound, the difference between first and second,   one pound, the difference between state champs and state runner up.”
