Lions ranked No. 7 in basketball

    COMMERCE– The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team is ranked seventh in the initial NCAA South Central Regional Rankings. The South Central Region consists of the Lone Star, Heartland and Rocky Mountain Athletic conferences. The rankings were released on Wednesday by the NCAA.


     A&M-Commerce is one of six teams from the LSC in the rankings. Tarleton State is ranked first in the region. West Texas A&M is ranked third followed by UT Permian Basin in fourth. Cameron is ranked sixth and A&M-Kingsville comes in at 10th. The tournament champions of the LSC, HC, and RMAC, as well as five at-large teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
     Three of the Lions' seven losses have come to teams ranked in the top six in the region. A&M-Commerce has wins over WT, Cameron and CSU-Pueblo and two wins over A&M-Kingsville. The Lions finish the season against Tarleton State, WT and UTPB, the last two on the road
     The Lions are currently 17-7. They are in fourth place in the league with three games remaining on the year, with a record of 9-6 in the LSC. The Lions have their final home game of the season on Thursday when they host regional leader Tarleton State. That game will begin at 7 p.m. at the Field House. The Lions then finish the season with road games against WT and UTPB next week.
