CAMPBELL — The Cumby Trojans upped their district 17-A baseball record to 2-0 Monday afternoon defeating the Campbell Indians 9-3 in Campbell.
Junior pitcher Tim Cook (3-1, 2-0) followed his 16 strikeout performance against Miller Grove with a 14 strikeout complete game one-hitter against the Indians.
All three of Campbell's runs were unearned. Cook also allowed seven walks. Campbell's one hit came in the third inning after two Indian hitters reached base on errors. With runners on second and third, Cook gave up a single to center to score both runs.
Senior first baseman Jason Wallace led the Trojans at the plate going 4-for-4 with an RBI double. Cook had three hits with and an RBI; Tanner Gomez, Taylor Gay and designated hitter C.J. Ringenberg all had two hits-each with an RBI.
"We weren't nearly as crisp as we needed to be today, we had several physical and mental mistakes in critical situations. We especially need to eliminate the mental mistakes , we have to follow our game plan. Tim pitched well enough today to overcome those mistakes," Cumby baseball coach Scott Mabe said.
