The first Northeast Texas Music Festival singing contest will be held at the Double C Steakhouse & Saloon, 206 Market St., Winnsboro, with the top winners taking home $1,000 in cash prizes.
According to Larry Wright, NETMF board member, four preliminary competitions will be held, with the top three winners of each preliminary advancing to the finals.
“The Music Festival is excited to be sponsoring its first singing contest as a way to expand its goal of providing quality, affordable entertainment for the citizens of Winnsboro and the East Texas area,” Wright said. “Although this is our first singing contest, we look forward to having this become an annual program to provide new artists an opportunity to display their talent and build their resumé.”
Preliminary competitions are scheduled for April 4 and 18, and again on May 2 and 16. The finals will be May 30.
“There is a nonrefundable entry fee of $20,” Wright said. “All entries must be accompanied by an audition tape to be screened by the event’s producer, Northeast Texas Productions.”
Not all entries will qualify and audition tapes will not be returned, Wright advised.
“Each preliminary will include 12 to 16 contestants, depending on the total number of entries,” Wright explained. “Each contestant will perform two songs for a panel of judges. Preliminary winners will be announced each night.”
The overall winner will be invited to perform at the 9th Annual Northeast Texas Music Festival, starring the Bellamy Brothers, on June 20.
Seating in the Double C is limited and tickets will be sold at the door on a first come, first serve basis for $5 each. Performances begin at 8:30 p.m.
