4 out of 5 stars

Comedy directors Anthony and Joe Russo create a hard hitting political thriller with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
This is the third outing ("Captain America," "Avengers" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier") of the Marvel Comics stars and stripes adorned superhero. In the original film, “Captain America,” American World War II soldier Steve Rogers undergoes a top secret experiment to make a perfect soldier. After a successful procedure, Rogers is endowed with super human strength, speed and reflexes to become the U.S. World War II hero Captain America.
In “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” has to come to grips with modern American society, 70 years after being frozen in suspended animation in ice. Rogers finds a much more complex world, where taking orders without thinking, instead of being in the best interest of the United States, fills the pockets of a corrupt politician.
During the first act of the film, Rogers learns almost all his friends from WWII are deceased. He tries to ignore his loss by joining an elite government organization to stop threats to the United States.
While Rogers struggles with his current situation, he meets his match, an international assassin code named the Winter Soldier. Roger must reach deep inside himself to understand modern society, overcome loss and defeat an enemy stronger than himself.
As the film opens, audiences see actor Chris Evans don a darker Captain America uniform during a black ops operation to secure a highjacked government ship that has drifted outside international waters.
Audiences will enjoy the fight choreography coupled with excellent cinematography from the first fight scene. Rogers uses his shield to decimate enemies in ways that might defy physics, but is eye candy for the viewer. The satisfactory “thump” of the star-spangled shield colliding with an enemy’s head is beyond gratifying for action fans. Evans as Rogers is in peak physical condition as he kicks, jumps, spins and flips his way through enemy after enemy. The grace and verocity of Captain America’s fighting style is a thrill to watch.
As Captain America meets the Winter Soldier for the first time the audience will get to see the skill of each character. Audience members will hold their breath as Rogers narrowly escapes death from a knife-wielding Winter Soldier.
Scarlett Johansson, as special agent Black Widow, does a wonderful job helping Evans adapt to the modern world and getting through obstacles a man from the 1940s might not understand. The friendship between Black Widow and Captain America was playful and witty as the two disarm enemy after enemy.
The plot of “Captain America: the Winter Soldier” had a tight script that leads the audience down a wormhole of political intrigue as Rogers tries to find out who paid Winter Soldier to attack the United States.
Bottom line, this film is a must watch. “Captain America: Winter Soldier” has a tight story, action, drama and political intrigue. Chris Evan does a superb job as Captain America learing about out modern society.
